Greatness from Within
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The late summer of Aug. brought a surprise to the
home of Martha and John Sim. While they had just pushed their third and thought to be last child out of the nest came the news of another baby. The 40 and 45 year old parents strapped in for their final child, James Stuart Sim. Although the news of their fourth child was celebrated, Martha and John were in no way giving up their travel bug. While there was a lot of love in the Sim family, there had not been a lot of presence at times. Stuart Sim grew up to become a successful partner in his family legacy, Morgan Marrow Company, and then chose to use his business to support other children who may not have had the most attention growing up. After some research Stuart hand-picked to support The Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Virginia. The Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Virginia is a place for children and teens to reach their full potential regardless of their race, social class, status or abilities. “We all have greatness inside but it’s how we are nurtured and taught that allows that greatness to shine,” Stuart once said. This club strives to “We all have provide programs for children in five core areas. These areas include character greatness inside and leadership development, health and life skills, the arts, sports, fitness and but it’s how we recreation and education and career. are nurtured and All of these capacities are here to help aid children in their futures taught that allows regardless if they have people at home supporting them or not. Stuart is in full that greatness to support of The Boys and Girls Club and has used his company’s platform to shine,” Stuart publicly support and sponsor them on countless occasions. This club’s vision once said. and purpose is to encourage youth development while instilling healthy habits, self-esteem, independence and interpersonal skills. Everyone deserves a chance at opportunity and success but just because we deserve it, doesn’t mean we always get that chance. This club gives children an outlet to hone their skills and passions. It allows them the attention needed to thrive. The Rosemont Unit located at 1505 Competitor Court in Virginia Beach, VA 23453 is open Monday through Friday from 3 o’clock in the afternoon to 8 o’clock in the evening with dinner included. This club not only supports children who have had it rough in life but also children whose parents both work full time, families with money problems, etc. To make things easier on parents and children, transportation is offered to a large number of schools in the area. Currently, there are 11 club locations with the hopes of expanding. “It’s a result-based world, so why would we not support a cause giving children the best results possible to make it in world as rough as this one…” said Stuart Sim when asked his thoughts about supporting and encouraging the expansion of this club to places all over the country. To make this dream a reality there will need to be more donations and sponsors. As of now there is so much support from sponsors such as Dollar Tree, JCA Foundation, Loancare Company, Morgan Marrow Company, as well as many others. In addition to the support from sponsors there is also a lot of support from our local community. There have been many successful events that Morgan Marrow along with other followers have supported and donated to such as The Suffolk barbecue and Oyster Roast, Golf Tournaments, Eastern Shore Swine and Wine Events, Hampton Roads STEM camp for children and so many more. Children are the future and Morgan Marrow Company takes great joy in the small part they play to keep The Boys and Girls Club alive and flourishing. Stuart Sim has always talked about his childhood pleasantly but has further addressed how nice it would have been to have had something like The Boys and Girls Club growing up. To have a place that betters not only your education but your self-esteem and independence is a remarkable contribution, one these children will always remember. There are many ways to help this club continue to thrive. Some specific things we as individuals can do are to visit Michael’s during the Back2School campaign from Aug. 4-31 and purchase school supplies that will be donated to the different club locations or visit Buffalo Wild Wings in the month of Oct. where the donations made will go toward supporting the club’s sports programming’s and team sports. The event referenced above raised $20 thousand as well as gave so many children a fun memory to look back on. There are so many of these events but I wanted to include an image to really depict how these children are positively affected by the contributions made by so many people. I also enjoyed the fishing day event because it is something different that even the kids can participate in and enjoy. The Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Virginia’s priority outcomes are academic success, good character and leadership and healthy lifestyles. Although Stuart loved his childhood and appreciates his upbringing, he is honored to support something that enables more positivity into the lives of children everywhere that may not have the love and support he had from his siblings and family members. Morgan Marrow Company will continue to support the establishment of more Boys and Girls Clubs around the country and donate their time and money to help empower our future generations into success. Morgan Marrow Company Supports and Funds Research for Pancreatic Cancer 17 Years After Death of Clients Mother
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – 27 May 2020. For 17 years
Morgan Marrow has supported the Seena Magowitz Pancreatic Cancer Foundation by attending events and donating an average of $10 thousand annually. Along with the company’s monetary donation comes the donation of their company’s time. Every year a select few from the company travel to Arizona, Boston, or Florida for a span of three days to support the research of pancreatic cancer as well as their client, Roger Magowitz. Morgan Marrow Company has consistently supported the Seena Magowitz Foundation since the start in 2003 when their client lost his mother to this illness. Historically the foundation has been hosted in Arizona on the first weekend of Dec. About 10 years after the start of the foundation it decided to move to the East Coast and was held in Boston on the first weekend of Aug. for the next three years. In more recent years the foundation returned to their roots of Arizona, where the memories of Seena Magowitz live on. Every year a team of 4 to 8 employees at Morgan Marrow, facilitated by James Sim, gather in the chosen location to show support for Roger and his foundation. The dedication and loyalty that this company shows its clients is unsurpassable, further illuminating the strong ties of this family business. While remaining focused on the business aspect of their company Morgan Marrow also makes it a point to recognize that their business is a family and their clients are treated as such. Agreeing to be a client for Morgan Marrow means much more than having an insurance provider by your side. Being a client means there is always someone there for you, especially in the times when your actual family cannot be. The company prides itself on supporting their clients in other endeavors such as the Seena Magowitz Foundation. Roger Magowitz once said, “Time became my enemy, so I took off my watch.” While this statement came in light of Roger’s lack of time with his mother, Morgan Marrow was inspired to embody this phrase into the business by choosing to eliminate time as a factor with their clients. There is no time frame in which they work in, this company is about being there for their clients and aiding them in their needs. History of Morgan Marrow Morgan Marrow Company was started in 1904 when M. H. Morgan bought some insurance accounts from a Mr. James Cummings so he would be able to offer his future clients both real estate and insurance services. Harry Marrow then joined in 1907 with the intention of becoming a partner and while the name of the company was changed Harry Marrow never consummated the agreement before he passed away in 1958. In the later 1900s both of M. H. Morgan’s sons, J.B. Morgan and Edwin J. Morgan joined the company after leaving their own jobs the Marine Special Agent with the Home Insurance, creating the family business dynamic. After the passing of M. H. Morgan, Mr. John E. Sim joined the agency after being a Marine Supervisor with the Home Insurance Company. Together John E. Sim and John B. Morgan II took over the business and ran it successfully in the Newport News office until John’s retirement in Dec. 1996 and John B. Morgan’s retirement in April 2015. The office was then moved when sons J. Michael Sim, J. Stuart Sim and Edwin J. Morgan Jr took over. J. Stuart Sim acquired a quarter of the business as did J. Michael Sim while Edwin J. Morgan acquired his father and brother’s 50 percent share. Today the agency continues to be family owned by Edwin J. Morgan Jr. as well as J. Stuart Sim and J. Michael Sim. There are currently two branches that are being run in Hampton and Virginia Beach, Virginia. The company continues to be a family legacy ensuring that meaning of family with their clients. The insurance offered from this company includes auto and home, business, health, and flood insurance. All these insurance policies help create a tight knit community of restaurants and other establishments that are all insured by Morgan Marrow Company. The company prides itself on being there for its clients while supporting other endeavors such as the Seena Magowitz Pancreatic Cancer Foundation as well as The Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Virginia. Every year Morgan Marrow supports and donates to these causes while also spreading awareness. Along with these organizations, Morgan Marrow Company also supports the American Diabetes Association, Samaritan House, local food banks of the Hampton peninsula, and the Sandbridge Volunteer and Rescue Squad. The likelihood of Morgan Marrow continuing to be a family run operation stands with the hopes of J. Michael Sim’s daughter Juliette taking over the Hampton branch where Michael resides while J. Stuart Sim’s two daughters Hunter and Jordan Sim will inherit his share. Regardless of how things end for Morgan Marrow Company, if ever, they would like to instill the advice of continuing an open door policy where everyone is welcome and treated as a part of the family.
