Example Calculation

Find all stations that can satisfy the following operating conditions.

Flow Rate = 100 Mcfh

Minimum Inlet Pressure = 100 Psi
Maximum Inlet Pressure = 150 Psi
Outlet Pressure = 20 Psi

Note - To obtain results from this example, at least one Regulator and Monitor style calculation file, with “Design”
values within the range of target values, must be saved in the current Calculation File path (directory). If no
appropriate stations are saved, no matching stations will be selected.

To find matching stations complete the following steps.

! Select the Station MatchMaker menu item from the Miscellaneous menu list. The Station MatchMaker
Specifications screen will be displayed.

! Select the Clear command button.

! Select the Base Conditions command button. The Base Conditions screen will be displayed.

! For the Pressure, enter 14.73 Psi (Abs).

! For the Temperature, enter 60 Fahrenheit.

! From the Use Gas Properties File list, select us standard.prp.

! From the Atmospheric Pressure Method list, select AGA.

! From the Compressibility Method list, select None.

! Select the Apply command button.

! From the Station Type list, select Regulator & Monitor.

! In the Target Operating Data section:

! For the Maximum Flow Rate, enter 100 Mcfh.

! For the Minimum Inlet Pressure, enter 100 Psi.

! For the Maximum Inlet Pressure, enter 150 Psi.

! For the Outlet Pressure, enter 20 Psi.

! Select the List Matching Stations command button.

A message box will appear displaying the number of matching stations found. Select the OK command button to clear
the message. The matching stations will be listed in the table displayed below the “match” command buttons.

Results - The results will vary depending on the saved stations in the current Calculation Files path.

Screen Description

A list of stations that can meet certain specified performance criteria can be automatically generated using the Station
MatchMaker routine. To create a match list, select the Station MatchMaker menu item from the Valve & Fittings
menu list. The Station MatchMaker Specification screen will be displayed. The features associated with the screen
are described as follows.

Data Items

Match List - Displays the stations found during the matching process. Use the scroll bars to browse the stations
contained in the list. Click on the record (row) for a station to display the station information screen.

Maximum Flow Rate - A data field used to enter the maximum required flow rate through the station. Enter a value
by typing it into the data field. Ensure the value is expressed in terms of the selected dimensional unit.

Maximum Inlet Pressure - A data field used to enter the maximum supply pressure for the station. Enter a value
by typing it into the data field. Ensure the value is expressed in terms of the assigned dimensional unit.

Minimum Inlet Pressure - A data field used to enter the minimum supply pressure for the station. Enter a value by
typing it into the data field. Ensure the value is expressed in terms of the selected dimensional unit.

Outlet Pressure - A data field used to enter the outlet pressure for the station. Enter a value by typing it into the data
field. Ensure the value is expressed in terms of the selected dimensional unit.

Station Type - A drop-down list used to select the type of station to be considered when performing the matching
process.

Command Buttons

Base Conditions - A command button used to access the Base Conditions screen. When selected, the Base
Conditions screen will be displayed. Make any desired changes to the settings, then select the Apply command button
to save and apply the changes to the current calculation screen.

Cancel - A command button used to close the screen without saving any changes.

Clear - A command button used to set all of the data items to blank (null) values.

Close - A command button used to close the screen and save the current data values.

Help - A command button used to display this Help Reference.

List All Stations - A command button used to find all stations of the selected type, without performing any matching
of the operational values. When selected, the matching stations will be listed in the match list.

List Matching Stations - A command button used to find stations that “match” the current pressure, capacity, and
type requirements. When selected, the matching stations will be listed in the match list.

Notes - A command button used to display the Calculation Notes editor screen for the current calculation.

Notes & Considerations

! When the List Matching Stations command button is selected, the resulting selection set is created as follows:

• All saved calculation files contained in the current Calculation File directory, of the specified type, are
selected to create the base selection set. The final selection set is created by eliminating stations from the
base selection set as described in the following steps.

• Any stations where the Include When Performing Station Matching item is not selected (not
checked) are eliminated from the selection set.

• If the target minimum and maximum inlet pressure is outside the range of the Intended Operational
Limits for the inlet pressure for the station, the station is eliminated from the selection set.

• If the target outlet pressure is outside the range of the Intended Operational Limits for the outlet
pressures for the station, the station is eliminated from the selection set.

• If the target maximum flow rate is outside the range of the Intended Operational Limits for the
maximum Station Capacity for the station, the station is eliminated from the selection set.

• At the conclusion of the last step, any stations remaining in the selection set are displayed in the match list.

! The match list displays the description, calculation file name, and item information for any stations remaining in
the selection set at the conclusion of the selection process. Click in a cell containing the calculation file name to open
the associated calculation file. If a drawing file name is assigned (displayed), click in the cell containing the drawing
file name to display the file.

! The display of an assigned drawing file is supported by the Windows system application currently assigned to the
associated file type. If no application is assigned, the drawing file will not be displayed.

! Pressure values displayed or entered using this calculation screen, are represented in gauge pressure values.

! The idea of the Station MatchMaker routine, when combined with the values contained on the Intended Operational
Limits for the station calculation files, is to allow “standard” station configurations to be developed and saved. Then
when a new station is required, the matching routine can be executed to find previously saved stations whose intended
operational values can satisfy the requirements of the new station.

! To specify the number of digits to display to the right of the decimal indicator, double-click in the associated data
field. The Decimal Specifications screen will be displayed. Enter or select the desired number of digits, then select
the Apply command button to save and apply any changes.
