LESSON TOPIC: “Let’s be friends”

LESSON TYPE: combined ( mixed) lesson

SKILLS: reading, speaking, writing

RESOURCES: blackboard and chalk, student’s notebooks and books, worksheets.

AIMS: - to check and improve students’ reading comprehension and speaking;

- to improve students’ vocabulary ( adjectives describing people);

OBJECTIVES:

- SWBAT read in order to activate and reinforce other skills  (vocabulary, pronunciation and
writing);

- SWBAT identify supporting details and examples in an informational text;

- SWBAT describe their best friends ( physical appearance and character);

Activity 1: Warm up (10”) – group work

Procedure:

The teacher salutes the students, asks them how they are feeling and asks one of the students to write
the date on the blackboard.

The teacher forms four groups and gives each group separated letters. Each group will have to arrange
them in order to find out the title of the lesson. The teacher writes it on the blackboard, as well. The
teacher wants to know if they have friends, how they choose their friends and if they need them.

Aims: to assure the introduction part of the lesson

Techniques: informal conversation

Activity 2: Lead in (15”) – whole class


Procedure:

The students are divided into groups of 7 and the teacher tells the students that they are going to solve
exercises no.2 and 3 from their book. There are some adjectives and they will have to use them to
describe people. The teacher will be walking around as students are working, to help them and see if
they need assistance.

Aims: -to improve students’ vocabulary (adjectives)

Techniques: reading, speaking, writing

Interaction: T>S; S>T

Activity 3: Practice (10”) –whole class

Procedure:

The teacher tells the students that they are going to read the paragraph from exercise 5, identify all
adjectives in the text and write them in two columns (adjectives describing physical appearance and
adjectives describing character). The students take turns and read the paragraph aloud. The teacher
helps the students with the unknown words.

Aims: - to improve students’ reading comprehension

Techniques: conversation, reading

Skills: reading, speaking

Activity 4: Production (10”) – whole class

Procedure:

The teacher gives each student one sheet of paper. They will have to walk around the classroom ( and
hold the paper on their back) and the colleagues will have to write on each student’s sheet of paper an
adjective that describes them best. At the end, the students are asked to read the adjectives and find
out what their colleagues think about them.

Aims: to involve and motivate the students to participate in the activity

Techniques: writing, dialogue

Activity 5 – Follow up (5”) individual works

Homework:
1. Find an English joke about friendship or friends and present it to the class.

2. Find out how to pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, the longest


town name currently existing in the UK.

Aims: to develop writing and speaking skills

Techniques: written assignment
