I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
Familiar with the layout of the periodic table
Know some information about the elements that may be found in the periodic table
Identify the group number where the element it belongs
B. MOTIVATION
“Answer Me”
The teacher will ask the students a number wherein those numbers
represents the name of the students. The one who will be called is the one
who will pick up the question. The question is all about the symbols of the
element wherein they will give the element name and their group number
using their periodic table.
C. ACTIVITY
The students will answer Activity # 4 “The Periodic Table- It’s Element-
ary!” on Learner’s Material page 40-42. After answering the questions the
teacher will discuss and check the answers.
D. ANALYSIS
1. Based on the activity, cite some elements and give their group number.
2. How are the names of elements given?
3. Give some elements that are written according to their ancient names.
E. ABSTRACTION
The periodic table arranges all of the known elements in order of
increasing number. Elements are arranged in vertical columns called
“groups”.
There are some elements written according to their ancient names, for
example ferrum (iron), argentum (silver), hydrargerum (mercury) and
plumbum (lead). Symbols for elements are used for representing themselves.
Symbols are assigned to elements in a different way. Each element in the
periodic table has a name and shorthand symbol of two or two letters.
F. APPLICATION
Write at least five (5) elements that are written according to their
ancient names. Write the element name their ancient name with their symbol.
IV. EVALUATION
Arrange the following jumbled letters to form the name of an element/ Latin
name on the space provided.

V. ASSIGNMENT
1. Study the different elements that are found in food labels.
