Youth unemployment in Bangladesh

Creating employment for the large number of youths is becoming the major challenges in recent
time for the government. In 2019, the unemployment rate in Bangladesh was at approximately
4.29 percent. After a decrease from 2010 through 2012, Bangladesh's unemployment has been
steady at around 4.4 percent. (H. Plecher, 2020) Whereas the estimated youth unemployment
rate in 2019 was at 11.92%. (H. Plecher, 2020), more than two times than the national average.
Ironically, unemployment rate seems higher in the highly educated youth. For example,
unemployment rate is 13.4 percent among youths having a tertiary level education and 28
percent among youths having secondary level education. (Fahmida Khatun,2019)
According to a research of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), 33.19%
educated people are unemployed. Unemployment rate is among bachelor is 36.6% and
among master's degree holders 34.3%. (BIDS Research,2019)
