RESUMEN:

“PRODUCT DISTRIBUTION: THE BASICS”

SUMMARY

The products and supplies must still be moved to our customers through space
and time. The new strategies and methods in the distribution and transport of our
logistics chains, should create new values for our customers through these
processes. This will be one of the demands of future value of our clients and will be
an important part of our competitive advantages in the new markets and
challenges to face. The transport process is also considered a critical process in
the management and administration of the Logistics Chains and, in addition, it
generally represents a significant cost of the total logistics cost. Due to this
consideration, it is a priority in the logistics chains of the companies to properly
manage and plan their transport and distribution networks.
This is why the transportation and distribution system is the most important
component for most organizations, because the success of a logistics chain is
closely related to its design and proper use. The transport is responsible for
moving the finished products, raw materials and inputs, between companies and
customers that are geographically dispersed, and adds value to the transported
products when they are delivered on time, without damage and in the quantities
required.
Likewise, transportation is one of the key points in customer satisfaction. However,
it is one of the highest logistics costs and constitutes a representative proportion of
the prices of the products. The costs associated with transportation are highly
representative in the supply chain and are directly involved with the relationship
with suppliers, customers and competitors.
The management of transport has two imperative tasks, these are the choice of
means or means of transport to be used and the programming of the movements
to be used. These almost occupy the direction of transport management, given that
all the decisions they make must be adjusted to optimal measures taking into
account the following factors:

Costs
Delivery
Speed
Efficiency
Security
Precision mode
Customer service

It is also worth considering that the subcontracting of the transport service allows
the company a greater focus on the core business of the same, and leave this
class of tasks to operators specialized in transport tasks. As a conclusion it is
important to know that although the choice of means that will make up the transport
service are part of the Strategic Plan, transportation management must make
decisions on a day-to-day basis in relation to the modality, size and shipping costs,
that is, even taking decisions outside the general transport plan that imply the use
of private and / or subcontracted fleet, in the form of individual means or making
use of transport intermodality.
