eLTE-U Solution Overview
To get the high-performance wireless connectivity
needed to simplify digital transformation,
enterprises can turn to a private cellular network
that operates on the unlicensed spectrum. This type
of wireless network has the convenience and easy
deployment of common Wi-Fi, coupled with the
high reliability and stable performance of cellular
wireless technology.
Huawei’s eLTE-U solution implements 4.5G
communication technology on the unlicensed
spectrum for low-cost operation. This solution
enables companies and government agencies to
deploy an advanced wireless network for broadband
transmission of data and video services to cover an
enterprise campus or city public areas.
The eLTE-U solution can be deployed in two different
ways. The typical one includes a Core Network (CN)
system, base stations (AirNodes), and terminals.
An application server connects to the CN to meet
various application requirements. The other eLTE-U
deployment scheme is simpler and includes only a
base station (AirEdge) and terminals. The AirEdge
communicates directly with an application server
over an IP network. This simplified scheme suits
fixed video surveillance setups because terminals
do not move and do not perform handovers between
cells. The CN is not required because the AirEdge
can process the data of basic video services and
other general-purpose applications.

eLTE-U Solution Highlights
The eLTE-U solution offers the robust, cost-effective connectivity features needed to support a wide variety of enterprise requirements:
Strong anti-
interferencee
The eLTE-U solution provides stronger multi-
path signal processing capabilities. The solution
can combine and enhance multiple-reflection
wireless signals to adapt to different environmental
conditions climates than those common unlicensed
wireless technologies, such as the Wi-Fi, and
therefore provides stable data transmission even in
heavy rain and good network coverage in city areas
with dense concentrations of buildings and trees.
The eLTE-U solution also adapts well to radio
interference on the unlicensed spectrum. A refined
wireless resource dispatching mechanism enables
the equipment to select the most appropriate
wireless resources after checking interferences
down to the millisecond. Compared to Wi-Fi and
microwave technologies under the same external
interference, the eLTE-U solution has three times
less performance loss.

The eLTE-U solution operates on the 5.4 GHz or 5.8
GHz unlicensed spectrums. Enterprises can easily
set up and use an eLTE-U network because they do
not need to apply for a spectrum license or pay for
spectrum use.
The small-sized AirNode and AirEdge devices are
easy to install. The Data Access Unit (DAU) supplies
power to terminal devices using Power over
Ethernet (PoE), so wiring is simplified, and support
for plug-and-play simplifies network configuration.
A single 3U or 1U cabinet houses all the core
Network Elements (NEs) needed to operate a full
eLTE-U wireless network.
For fixed video surveillance and similar applications,
eLTE-U deployment is especially easy. Just connect
an AirEdge device to an existing wired LAN and use
terminal modules to connect devices wirelessly.

performance
The eLTE-U solution features higher receive
sensitivity and uses special technologies to ensure
terminal access at the edge of a cell. The eLTE-U
network coverage is two to three times larger than
that of a Wi-Fi network.
The eLTE-U solution is designed based on the
cellular system and supports a standard and
comprehensive inter-cell handover mechanism.
Terminals can perform handovers with a delay less
than 50 ms with no packet loss even when moving
at speeds as high as 160 km/h.
A single AirNode on an eLTE-U network can process
concurrent services from 128 terminals with no
significant deterioration in throughput.
