Internship

People’s Community Clinic
- Austin, Texas
- The mission statement is, “to improve the health of medically underserved and
uninsured Central Texans by providing high quality, affordable health care
with dignity and respect,”
- Services include: acupuncture, adolescent health, adult primary care, chronic
disease management, diabetes education, health education, immunizations,
integrated behavioral health, laboratory procedures, lactation counseling,
nutrition counseling and cooking classes, pediatric care, pharmacy/prescription
assistance, prenatal care, reproductive health, social work
Funding Sources
- Federally Qualified Health Center (Health Resources and Services
Administration Health Center Program from the US government)
- Must be certain criteria including providing a sliding scale fee based on income, provide
comprehensive services, serve an underserved area or clientele, and more
- Private donations
- St. David’s Foundation ($4,000,000)
- Over 150 donations from $1,000 to $250,000 each

Patients and Eligibility

- All individuals are eligible regardless of sex, age, income, needs, insurance, etc.
- According to the 2017 Annual Report,
- Socioeconomic status: 74% of patients live below the Federal Poverty Level, 24% live at or
above the FPL, and 2% are unknown
- Ethnicity: 82.73% of patients are Hispanic, 8.08% white, 6.76% African American, 1.85%
unknown, and 0.58% Asian
- Age: 26.06% young adult (20 to 34), 25.76% babies and young children (0 to 4), 23.43% adults
(35 to 64), 14.14% adolescents (11 to 19), 8.41% children (5 to 10), and 2.22% seniors (65 and
older)
- A wide variety of health needs for every service
Health and Wellness Promotion Project
- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and the Provider
- Provider: medical doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, medical assistants,
health educators, nutritionists, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
- To be presented on August 21, 2019
- 1 hour presentation
- Handout provided for provider + handout provided to give to PCOS patients
- Developed through analyzing gaps of knowledge at People’s
H+WPP Continued
