Chapter 5: Other Design Consideration

5.1 Introduction

Interlocking concrete block is a way to build a strong wall without mortar. Retaining wall
systems consist of blocks of various shapes and sizes that can be assembled in several ways
or arrangements to form vertical walls. All of which will have interlocking parts and post as
members which interconnect the components to form an integral wall system that had
resistance to sliding and overturning. The need for retaining wall is well known in
landscaping and home building. The interlocking method of construction makes it ideal for
any retaining wall requirement, including both Gravity and Reinforced Wall Designs.

5.2 Other Block Design Consideration

It offers landscapers, horticulturalists and architects an earth retaining structure

giving true plantability with an aesthetic fluted face. It is also simple to install and
flora and deep rooted plant life can be planted in each block to create a decorative
finish to this highly effective retaining structure. Florawall provides an uninhibited
root and water penetration system.
2. Earthform Block
Earthform, an easy D.I.Y product which can create the most attractive features in any
garden. Eliminate difficult to maintain steep areas by creating plantable, easy to
maintain Earthform walls.

3. Enviro-wall block
Enviro-Wall, a versatile reversible block allowing a variety of visual effects. It can be
used with gaps for vegetation growth or as a solid engineering structure. Enviro-Wall
is a cost-effective and simple retaining wall system.
5.3 Other Retaining Wall Design

Casual-looking Retaining Wall Designs

If the yard/garden is already embellished with elements having defined borders, slightly
casual-looking designs are recommended. Some recommendable options include:

1. Tumbled Stone Walls

Tumbled stones are preferred for their soft/rounded edges. They can be arranged in
various patterns and shapes for creating a slightly uneven look. Tumbled stones are
usually ordered in a mix of high-gloss and dull stones that are combined without any
definite pattern to create informal designs. Further, tumbled stones can be adorned
with colored capping stones

2. Faux Stone Wall

Faux stone retaining walls are created by adorning a simple, cinder block retaining
wall with faux stones. The faux front of the walls takes care of the decorative needs.
Faux stones can be ordered across an exhaustive range of designs and colors.
Choices also include faux stone finishes in the form of pebble, stone or brick finish.
