Lab report:

Centripetal Force Lab

Introduction:

The main purpose of this work is to determine the speed of an object moving in
uniform circular path and to find the relationship between variables i.e. FC and
v2.
In this virtual laboratory, we will complete an investigation that will allow to
determine the relationship between centripetal force (Fc), m, r, and v (speed of the
object) for uniform circular motion.

Procedure:

In this experiment we studied motion of an object in circular path to determine relation between
centripetal force and velocity. In order to carry out the task, we used online simulation link tab
and excel worksheet for calculation . In online simultion we fixed some variables and change a
single required variable and computed time for 10 revolutions. However calculations , graphs etc
are done on excel worksheet.

Data:
The experiment comprised of two parts. Table 1 shows data and results for part-1 and table 2
shows data and results for part-2.

Graphs and calculations and discussions:

2) Plot a graph of FC vs. v2

This is shown in Figure-1

3) Discuss the shape of the graph - is it linear?

Yes. The shape of graph is staright line. i.e. y=mx . The relationship is found
linear.

4) Find the slope of the graph

The slope of graph is 0.08484 as given in figure-1.

5) Calculate the slope with the given information, Fc = (m/r) (v2) [slope = m/r]

m 0.125
r 1.5
m/r slope 0.0833

6) Compare the two results

Slope from graph = 0.08484

Slope for m/r ration = 0.0833

% difference = 0.012%

Based on error analysis shown in Table 2,it is found that %age error is less than 1%.

Conclusions:

 We studies how to determine relation between Fc and V 2. It is concluted that the relation
linear.
 Comparison is made between theoratical and experimental Fc by varying string radius
and other variables constant, it is concluded that %gae error is less than 1%.
 The difference is mainly due to reading from naked eye and friction in the system.
