3 ABB Relays Type RAISA Harmonically restrained overcurrent or ground-fault relay B03-2311° Reet ean 987 ‘Granghe nc mary 1985 ir nj urge warren Abstract + 2nd harmonic restraint for inrush security + Operate value set by a five position rotary switch + Adjustable restraint: Settable for 2nd har- ‘monic component of 20, 32 or 50 % of the fundamental ‘= Operating time 50—60 ms at 3 x pickup ‘+ Output relay has 3 no medium-(trip-)duty contacts ‘= Versions available with or without test switch, or having a definite-time delayed output ‘Application Modem power transformers built with grain- oriented steel can experience peak transient magnetizing inrush- currents of 5-10 times rated {ul-load current when they are switched: in to the high-voltage side and 10-20 times rated full load current when switched-in to the low voltage side. The peak magnitude and rate of decay of these transients will depend, among other things, (on the transformer's initial core residual flux. winding losses, saturation characteristic, and type of connection (e.g. al¥-0) The RAISA is applied where ordinary overcur. rent and ground-fault relays, having short-to-mo. derate time-delay characteristics, would pick up in the presence of these transient inrush cur Tents. Selectivity is provided by making use o the fact that, the magnitude of the 2nd harmonic ‘component of current is much larger during in rush than itis during fault conditions. Design “The basic version of RAISA includes an ATXP 16 test switch, an RXIEC 4 restraining unit and an RXTEF 4 measuring unit, The RXIEC 4 restraining unit contains air- gapped transformers, circuits which produce the operate and restraint voltages, a level detec tor and an integrator. The restraint voltage is ‘subtracted from the operate voltage and the re- sult is fed to the level detector. An output is Obtained from the level detector when the result is greater than a reference voltage set via the five position selector switch on the measuring unit RXTEF 4. The output is integrated and sup- plied to another level detector having a fixed reference value in RXTEF 4, XIEC 4 is available with four different ratios of the input transformers which give the relay dif. ferent scale factors K,. See Technical data for available scale factors. K, determines the oper. ational range of the protective relay. The percentage of restraint is selected via a jumper (on the rear of the terminal base. The degree oi restraint is defined as the content of the seconc harmonic, calculated as a percentage of the fundamental harmonic current which is neces: sary to prevent operation on currents which are considerably larger than the set operating cur rent ‘An RTXK short-circuiting device is mounted or the terminal base and short-crcuits the secon. dary circuit of the current transformer when the RXIEC 4 is removed. ‘Type RAISA Harmonically restrained instantaneous overcurrent or ground-fault relay B0s-23118 Paoe2 Design (conta) The AIXTEF 4, measuring unit, contains a second level detector with an output amplifier, auxiliary voltage regulator (to provide the reference vor tage), rotary selector switch, output relay, and transient protection. When the integrated output voltage from the RXIEC 4 restraining unit ex- ‘ceeds this second level detector’ fned refer- fence level, the ampiiier-driven output relay picks up. ‘The rotary selector switch has five positions: 1, 1.25, 1.6, 2, 2.5. By multiplying the set value on the folary switch with the scale factor K, for RXIEC 4, the value of the fundamental operating current is obtained, e.g. 2x0.5A= 1.0 Power required for the measuring circuits is ob- tained from a voltage divider consisting of res! tors and regulating diodes. The supply voltage to he votage cher is 48, 110-125 or 220 V Jc. Besides the basic versions, two other versions are available. One which’ excludes the test ‘switch, and one which includes an RXKF 1 time delay relay for definite-time delays, an RXTNI 21 Counter (requires ac supply) to measure the run- fing time and an RXSF 1 target to indicate start- ing and tripping.
