Centroids of Common Shapes
Example
Using the method of composite areas, determine the
location of the centroid of the shaded area shown in Fig.
(a).

The area can be viewed as a rectangle, from which a semicircle and a triangle have been removed. The areas and
centroidal coordinates for each of these shapes can be determined using Table 8.1. The results are shown in Figs.
(b)–(d).
