Mattel? How could information used to create business value for those organizations?
Provide examples.
Ans. Mattel has used a different perspective by performing “cultural assessment”. It involves
analyzing behavior and values and more proactive approach. He can gather useful information
regarding the same. They get ahead by monitoring information.
Some examples are: A new product line could be added accordingly on looking the focus of
people on a particular product.
Growing trend towards a particular fashion wear relating to women would be helpful in
attracting new customer for company, a particular online fashion store can gather knowledge
regarding trend. Needs and want of consumer can be easily identified. Mattel can use online
trend very well to create a great environment knowledge. He can gather inputs to know how to
stay away from a non-effective thing. Marketing and decision making both are essentially
valued. A car design was introduced via it. Blogs cater to much change in attitude.

contact them. Why do you think this is the case?
Ans. They provide information which adds to the competitive advantage of the company .A way
to analyze what people are thinking is very well discussed on social media. Information system
is designed to help integrate global trends .Facebook is a prime example where opinion is
shared in real time. Opinions are shared effectively on online review sites. Companies need not
approach opinion people directly they can figure trend effectively. Although the opinion of
these people cannot be verified as original though it makes impact as many consumer check
online reviews.
Q.3 One of the participants in the case states that you want to ride the wave rather than
trying to start one of your own. “What does she mean by that? If companies are not stating
these “waves” where they are coming from?
Ans. This statement implies that companies should reach out to find the new trend but by not
investing too much on investment, the waves erupt suddenly. Marketers should keep an eye on
social waves .Any campaign can virtually hit a jackpot. It is rightly said that sales are not driven
by opinion leader, it is riding waves vs. creating momentum .New trend are building
simultaneously by opinion from consumers being more vocal .It is also to be understood that
sales cannot be gathered by particular trend. Ecommerce involves relationship with customer
and likeminded people.
