Examples of Hypothesis:: 1.what Is Meant by Hypothesis ?
Examples of Hypothesis:
• If I replace the battery in my car, then my car will get better gas mileage.
• If I eat more vegetables, then I will lose weight faster.
• If I add fertilizer to my garden, then my plants will grow faster.
• If I brush my teeth every day, then I will not develop cavities.
A one-tailed test is a statistical test in which the critical area of a distribution is one-sided so
that it is either greater than or less than a certain value, but not both. If the sample being
tested falls into the one-sided critical area, the alternative hypothesis will be accepted
instead of the null hypothesis.
Note:
A one-tailed test is also known as a directional hypothesis or directional test.
In statistics, a two-tailed test is a method in which the critical area of a distribution is two-
sided and tests whether a sample is greater than or less than a certain range of values. It is
used in null-hypothesis testing and testing for statistical significance.
Note
Be careful to note if a statistical test is one- or two-tailed as this will greatly influence a
model's interpretation.
5.What is confidence level and level of significance ?
1. Significance level: In a hypothesis test, the significance level, alpha, is the probability
of making the wrong decision when the null hypothesis is true.
2. Confidence level: The probability that if a poll/test/survey were repeated over and
over again, the results obtained would be the same. A confidence level = 1 - alpha.
The confidence level tells you how sure you can be and is expressed as a percentage.
