Letter to Army News – Shasmeen & Rania

21st February 1942

Dear Army News,

I am writing this letter to you to inform you that censoring my report about the ‘Bombing in
Darwin’ was a disadvantage for you, and I want to advise you to allow me to be able to
publish my report to the public. Firstly, right now, you are filtering and censoring what is
actually happening around innocent residents, which is very much not ideal for such a
prestigious newspaper company. Censorship isn’t necessary to maintain high morale at
home. Secondly. you need to spread awareness instead of censoring the facts. My last and
final that I will be stating is that you should publish this report is because you could
potentially and most likely get help from other countries, which would be a tremendously
helpful action as we are in this crisis right now. Please take this letter into consideration,
Thank you.

Kind Regards,
Writers from ‘The Northern Standard’
