How to learn vocabulary for English section of SSC CGL EXAM?

SSC CGL 2020-21 notifications is expected in the month of September 2020 and SSC
CGL TIER I is tentatively scheduled in the month of March 2021. The SSC CGL
Upcoming exam dates have been specified in the latest EXAM CALENDAR released by
SSC to help the aspirants prepare accordingly.

English is one of the sections which is common in TIER I and TIER II. Vocabulary is one
of the most indispensable tools to score high in the section. Candidates with strong
vocabulary stand a fair chance to touch the cut-off easily.
SSC CGL TIER I English section covers about 15 questions based on vocabulary which means that if you are good at it then one can easily score 30
marks in Tier I in English section. The division of vocabulary questions is given below:

Vocabulary based questions in SSC CGL Tier -1

1. 2 synonyms
2. 2 antonyms
3. 2 OWS2 I&P
4. 5 questions of cloze test(sometimes based on vocabulary)
5. Sometimes Sentence Improvement is based on vocabulary.

Similarly SSC CGL Tier -2 also covers about 90 to 110 questions based on
vocabulary these are:

1. 5 Synonyms
2. 5 Antonyms
3. 10–12 OWS
4. 10–12 I&P
5. 25 questions of Cloze test(sometimes based on vocabulary)
6. Sometimes Sentence Improvement is based on vocabulary.

Candidates can acquire good command over vocabulary by following some significant tips these are:

1. Develop the habit of reading leading English newspaper such as TIMES OF INDIA or THE
HINDU.
2. Note down the difficult words in a separate note book and write their meanings.
3. Use the newly learned words in your daily conversations and writings to understand the basic
use. It will enhance your word power.
4. Download OXFORD DICTIONARY and note down the antonyms and synonyms of the words you
have shortlisted in your notebook while reading.
5. Make a list of One word substitution, antonym, synonyms and Idiom and Phrases which are
asked in the previous year exam. Learn them as SSC has a trend of repeating questions and most of the
times vocabulary is repeated. Take at least 10 year questions of vocabulary and learn them.

Follow these tips and do not forget to revise them daily so that you retain it till the upcoming SSC CGL
EXAM 2020.
