ISLAMIC GARDENS

“I think that in relation to

geometry, Islamic gardens
are more attractive since
they are very faithful to
geometry and
mathematics. details of
Persian and Byzantine
gardens are also included.”

Islamic landscaping roots its

origins in the ancient culture of
the Near and Middle East. For
the Muslim civilization, the garden is the representation of paradise on Earth. As stated
in the Koran, that is, the holy book of Islam: "Those who obey God and His Envoy, He will
introduce them to Gardens under which rivers flow, in which they will be eternally." (Holy
Quran: Sura 4, Aleya 13).

Geometry is the norm that articulates these orchards.

Along with mathematics, they are two sciences highly
cultivated by various Muslim philosophers and scholars,
such as Averroes. For this reason, its base usually has
a rectangular or square shape, in whose center the
source of 'life' is usually. These rectangular plots are
usually divided into four parts, crossed by tile paths,
which usually come together at the water gazebo.

Around the center of the water the vegetation should be

lush. Fruit trees and aromatic flowers are also very
popular in these patios, as they represent an oasis in the
middle of the arid desert lands of the East. The typical
species from Arab countries are usually jasmine, rose,
honeysuckle, lemon or orange. Although some of these
plants can also be found in Andalusian gardens.
It is usual that due to
the vegetable
abundance large
shaded spaces are
formed, something
also highly valued in
countries accustomed
to suffering almost the
majority of the year
from the influence and
scourge of the sun.
When the planted tree
species do not create
it, the galleries with
pointed arches do so
that usually surround
the ends of these
patios.
