Newtons three laws of motion

You already know that the unit of force is called Newton.

Isaac Newton was a British scientist and was born in 1643, 1. no force no
only a few days after the death of Galileo Galilei. change in motion
You all have something in common with Isaac Newton: in 2. F=ma
1665 and 1666 Isaac Newton could not go to university!
3. actio = reactio
Because of the plague (Pest) all schools and universities
were closed and he had to study on his own (imagine
doing that without youtube and showbie!).

He became a great scientist and maths teacher.

He found that the planets move in orbits (almost circles)
around each other because of the force of gravity and also discovered the three laws of
motion we still use today.

You already know the first two laws:

First law: An object only changes its speed or direction when a force acts on it.

Second law: The force depends on the mass and acceleration of the object: F =m⋅a

Open the link and read about the third law:

newtonsches-gesetz-wechselwirkungsprinzip

Your tasks for today:

1. Copy the title (Newtons three laws of motion) and the first and second law into your
notebook.
2. Describe the third law in your own words (in English)!
3. Name three examples that demonstrate the third law of motion!
4. Why is the third law very important to move forwards (e.g. for walking, swimming, …)?

Extra Question:
Remember how we said Superman was so strong because he grew up on Krypton where he
was used to a very high force of gravity?
Some people say, that Newtons third law is a problem when Superman is flying. Can you think
of a reason why?
Newton?
Never heard
of him!
