‘Malaysians still not

reading enough’

THE library carnival organised by the Penang Public Library Corporation

ended on a successful note as hundreds of people attended the event.

Penang state secretary Datuk Farizan Darus said the two-day event, aimed at
creating awareness on the importance of reading and the promotion of life-
long learning, was the corporation’s biggest for the year.

“Reading is food for the mind and reading quality materials will build an active
mind and enrich one’s knowledge.

“Various reading campaigns have been carried out and the response was
lukewarm at best.

“The society at large needs to read more and cultivate a reading habit in
children,” he said at the carnival’s closing at the state library in Seberang Jaya
near Butterworth recently.

Farizan also thanked Malaysian Communica-tions and Multimedia

Commission northern region director Mohd Hussin Ali, who was present, for
giving out 1,020 netbooks to be placed in libraries in Penang.
