Methodology

Research design: The purpose of this study is to gain knowledge about Hindu social
reform movement in British India at 19th century. This study gives us idea about what kind
of social reform took place at that time, what are the major factors that contribute in that
social reform and what are the consequences of this “Hindu social reform” movement. This
research also gives information on some individuals like Raja Ram Mohan Ray and Iswar-
Chandra Vidyasagar and their contribution in the Hindu social reform movement.

Data collection method: There are two major data collection method. They are:
 Primary data collection method
 Secondary data collection method
Here we mainly followed secondary data collection method. Because for this research
primary data collection method is difficult and we may not get enough information through
this method. On the other hand, secondary data collection is lot easier as there are lot of
literature and journals on this topic and in the internet, there are plenty information available
about this topic. So, we thought using only secondary data collection method will be
appropriate. For secondary data collection we mainly use secondary sources like internet. We
get lots of information about Hindu social reform form internet. We also collect information
from literary articles and journals. All the information taken from both internet or literature
are cited properly by using APA format. We also follow the same method while referring
bibliography.

Research approach: We use “quantitative method” approach for our research. This type of
approach mainly used to establish generalizable facts about a topic. We use mainly
observational research, content analysis these kind of quantitative method for our research.

By following these processes, we prepare our research on Hindu social reform. Considering
our limitation and research context we think these are the appropriate steps to take for doing
this research.
