Topics: architecture,
Communicative function: Describing buildings; talking about architectural features

Target language:
a. vocabulary associated with the topic of architecture
b. simple tenses to talk about present, past, and future actions and events
c. logical connectors to express cause and effect relationship
d. logical connectors to express relationships of contrast
e. language banks from Week 5’s online sessions
Length of video: Your video should last from 4’ to 5´.
Technical requirements:
 email, Workplace or any social network to make arrangements with your partner
 any video recording tool
 any video editing tool, if necessary
Note: If you use www.Youtube.com to make the video, change video privacy setting to “unlisted” so your
teacher can view it, but not strangers on the internet.
Assessment criteria:
 pronunciation and intonation
 accuracy
 interactive communication
 task achievement (organization, clarity and use of webcam)

Timeline and deadline:
This task should be prepared during week 5.
Each student must upload their video or paste the link to their video on Blackboard (Unit 9 file) by Sunday,
June 21st 2020 at 23:59 p.m.

ORAL PRODUCTION TASK INSTRUCTIONS


Intensive English 5

Work in pairs. Together plan, rehearse and record a conversation.

In your conversation, talk about the present, past and future of architecture.
Discuss these topics:
 What you think of your city or country’s architecture. Consider: style, structure, materials
used, size, furniture, colour palette, impact on the community and the environment, etc.
 Some well-known buildings from ancient civilizations- Describe them. Consider: style,
structure, materials used, size, furniture, colour palette, impact on the community and the
environment, etc.
 What you think buildings will be like in the future and what you would like buildings to be
able to do in the future
 If you think architecture affect people’s moods and the character of a town/city/country.
Explain.

PROCEDURE

Before recording
 Review units 8 and 9 on English Discoveries.
 Read and do exercises in Use of English files on Blackboard.
 Do exercises from Units 8 and 9 Practice resource files on Blackboard.
 Watch Week 5’s session recordings: session 1, session 2, and session 3.
 Read ORAL PRODUCTION TASK INSTRUCTIONS carefully.
 Together, plan how you are going to start, develop and end your conversation. Some
improvisation is welcome though.
 When planning, use the vocabulary and grammar structures you have learned in Units 8 and 9.
See Target language above.
 Make sure both of you will speak equally.
 Practice some times before recording the final version of your video.
 Check the rubrics with specific criteria for grading oral production activities.

While recording

 Interact with your partner.


 Improvise, if necessary.
 Be in a well-lit area.
 Speak as clearly as possible.
 Look at the camera while you talk (as often as possible).
 Smile.
 Be confident.
 Don’t just read.
 Show objects, pictures or other people doing things, if necessary.

After recording

 Make sure both of you have spoken equally.
