2010 Citizen of
the Year
Always putting others first

For the past 15 years Dennis Zupin has assisted members of the Onekama kindergarten class by hatching
chicken eggs for them.

CITIZEN OF THE YEAR: Frequent Onekama volunteer

Dennis Zupin proves helping others is the greatest gift
BY KEN GRABOWSKI

There are certain peo-
ple in this world who daily
give of themselves, doing
the little things that most
people take for granted.
But when they are unable
to perform those tasks,
that’s when everyone else
notices just how much
they miss them and more
importantly, what a valu-
able role they play in all
our lives.

FROM PAGE 5
riculum offered by the music
department and sees some
areas she would like to
expand to benefit the stu-
dents.
“I want to make sure
the music theory classes
are going to be accepted by
the four-year institutions
because they currently aren’t,
and I have some plans to
make that happen,” said
Jurcevic. “I want to keep the
music appreciation class,
and there is a need for a
music history class if there
are enough students that
plan to transfer to four-year
institutions as music majors.
I would like to see music the-
ory introduced, but I don’t
want to introduce it too soon
and have only two people
sign up for the class.”
One of the many things
that fall under her umbrella
as professor of music to over-
see the student singing group
known as the Collegiates. She
wants to expand its perfor-
mances to another level and
is looking on taking the act to
new levels.
“We are looking at tak-
ing the Collegiates to Europe
late in the spring or early in
the summer,” said Jurcevic.
“They are particularly excited
about it, but we also want to
take our program out to the
communty and show them
the wonderful message we
have to deliver.”
Jurcevic feels it is just
another way to have the best
kept secret in Manistee and
Mason counties become the
most enjoyed part of the
college. Over the course of
the next several months, she
plans on keeping the music
program moving forward
and growing so everyone
gain knowledge from it, but
also to enjoy what it has to
offer.
