INDEPENDENT EXAMINATIONS COMMITTEE

OF THE
GENERAL LEGAL COUNCIL
ENTRANCE EXAMINATION FOR ADMISSION TO THE PROFESSIONAL LAW
COURSE OF THE GHANA SCHOOL OF LAW IN OCTOBER 2020

1. It is announced for the information of LL.B graduates, Final Year LL.B candidates
awaiting their results and the general public, that the Independent Examinations
Committee of the General Legal Council will conduct an Entrance Examination for
applicants who wish to pursue the Professional Law Course in October 2020.

2. The Entrance Examination shall take place at a date, time and venue to be
advised later to applicants.

3. The Examination is a two-hour paper and is in two sections:

Section ‘A’ comprises 20 (multiple choice questions), covering all the ten basic
subjects required prior to admission to the Ghana School of Law.

Section ‘B’ will consist of two essay or problem questions, based on any of the
same 10 basic subjects. Candidates will be required to answer the two questions.

4. The persons who are eligible to write this Entrance Examination are:

a. Holders of a Bachelor of Laws degree and Final Year LL.B candidates


from accredited universities in Ghana; and

b. Holders of Bachelor of Law degrees or equivalent law degrees from


universities in the United Kingdom, Canada, United States of America and
other common law jurisdictions, and who have obtained passes in all the
following prescribed subjects:
1. Law of Contract
2. Law of Torts
3. Criminal Law
4. Law of Immovable Property
5. Ghana Constitutional Law
6. Ghana Legal System and Methods
7. Equity and Succession
8. Company Law
9. Commercial Law
10. Any one of the following subjects:
(a) Natural Resources Law
(b) Law of Taxation
(c) Intellectual Property Law
(d) Environmental Law; and
(e) Labour Law.
5. Applications shall be made by completing the Entrance Examination Registration
Forms electronically on the website of the Ghana School of Law or by
completing the Form which may be obtained from the Faculties of Law of public
universities in Ghana. Applicants from private universities and overseas
universities may obtain their Application Forms from the Registry of the Ghana
School of Law (Accra Main Campus).

6. Applicants shall complete the Application Form and annex the following
documents and submit same to the Registry of the Ghana School of Law:

a. A completed Declaration Form.


b. Banker’s draft for Four Hundred and Fifty Ghana Cedis (GH¢450.00)
made payable to the GLC/INDEP EXAM. COMM (IEC).
c. Four (4) recently taken passport-sized photographs of applicant.
d. Photocopies of law degree certificates and all other relevant certificates
such as High School certificates and testimonials (if any).
e. An identity document in the form of a passport, National Identification
Card, Voter’s ID or Driver’s Licence and two photocopies thereof. (The
original will be returned to the applicant after registration.)

7. All registered applicants will be given Examination Index Numbers by the General
Legal Council.

8. The admission process is as follows:


(i) The General Legal Council determines the number of candidates to be
admitted to the Professional Law Course for the academic year.

(ii) Applicants may be granted admission if they have passed the written
examination organised by the General Legal Council.

(iii) The General Legal Council will send out offers of admission to pursue the
Professional Law Course to applicants who passed the exam and have been
selected as suitable candidates.

9. The decision of the General Legal Council in respect of the published results of
the Entrance Examination shall be final.

10. The deadline for the submission of Application Forms is noon on 10th July 2020.
