OPENING VOLUNTARY We Gather Together arr. James Curnow

Andrew Baker, oboe

CALL TO WORSHIP (based on Psalm 124:8) Rev. Greg Gibson

Pastor: “Our help is in the name of the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.”
People: What did God do to help us?
Pastor: God chose the people of Israel to make a new beginning.
People: They received God’s covenant and prepared the way
for Jesus to come as our Savior.
Pastor: Let us worship the God of the covenant,
the God who is reigning over heaven and earth.

OPENING HYMN 100 God, Whose Love Is Reigning o’er Us LAUDA ANIMA
1. God whose love is reigning o’er us, source of all, the ending true;
hear the universal chorus raised in joyful praise to you:
Alleluia, Alleluia, worship ancient, worship new.
2. Word of God from nature bringing springtime green and autumn gold;
mountain streams like children singing, ocean waves like thunder bold:
Alleluia, Alleluia, as creation’s tale is told.
3. Holy God of ancient glory, choosing man and woman, too;
Abr’am’s faith and Sarah’s story formed a people bound to you.
Alleluia, Alleluia, to your covenant keep us true.
4. Covenant, new again in Jesus, Starchild born to set us free;
sent to heal us, sent to teach us how love’s children we might be.
Alleluia, Alleluia, risen Christ, our Savior he!

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (The Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

GLORIA PATRI MEINEKE

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen. Amen.
CALL TO PRAYER Rev. Greg Gibson
The proof of God’s amazing love is this:
While we were sinners, Christ died for us.
Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness,
so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Trusting in God our Father’s faithfulness and compassion,
let us now go to God in prayer together.

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER
O God, our Father, you have loved us with a love beyond our understanding,
and you have set us on paths of righteousness for your name’s sake.
As we remember the lavish gift of your grace symbolized in baptism, O God,
we praise you and give you thanks that you forgive us our failings.
Grant us now, we pray, the grace to die daily to sin,
and to rise daily to new life in Christ,
who lives and reigns with you, and in whose strong name we pray. Amen.

PASTORAL PRAYER

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

HYMN 92 For the Beauty of the Earth DIX

1. For the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.
2. For the beauty of each hour of the day and of the night,
hill and vale, and tree and flower, sun and moon, and stars of light;
Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.
3. For the joy of ear and eye, for the heart and mind’s delight,
for the mystic harmony linking sense to sound and sight;
Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.
4. For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child,
friends on earth and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild;
Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.
5. For thyself, best Gift Divine, to the world so freely given,
for that great, great love of thine, peace on earth, and joy in heaven;
Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.

CLOSING HYMN 451 Be Thou My Vision SLANE

1. Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
naught be all else to me, save that thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
2. Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word;
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
thou and thou only, first in my heart,
great God of heaven, my treasure thou art.
3. Great God of heaven, my victory won,
may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
