    Term used to describe his work
    at Boeing.

    that use a three-dimensional repre-
    sentation of geometric data, that is
    stored in the computer for the pur-
    poses of performing calculations and
    rendering 2D images. Such images
    may be stored for viewing later or

    The Process

    Modeling,
    Animating,
    Rendering
    Modeling
    creating points in 3D space which
    are connected to form a mesh

    Character Modeling:
    Architecture/Landscape

    Animating
    The act of taking these models
    and using computer programming
    to make them move

    Creating a skeleton inside


    the model.
    Keyframing (every move-
    ment is manually set for
    each frame).
    Motion capture.
    Physics engines.
    Rendering
    The process of converting 3D models into 2D images with
    photorealistic effects on a computer

    Real-time
    This type of rendering is done for games and simulators. Because
    they are done in real-time, these renderings must be done with
    very high speed in order to maintain realism.

    Non real-time
    This type of rendering is done for feature films and video. It can be
    a very slow process, but the benefit is that the final output can be-
    come extremely lifelike and detailed.
