COURSEWORK 2 : WRITING
Teenagers nowadays are rude and inconsiderate. Do you agree?

In the age of change, our human society is progressing rapidly on many fronts. Yet at the same
time, many setbacks have arisen. One of them is teenagers nowadays are rude and
inconsiderate. In past generations teenagers were taught by their parents to respect their elders,
the law, others and themselves.

In my opinion, some teenagers today are raised to only think of themselves and do not respect
their elders or their surroundings. My main point is lack of respect is a large issue in society. The
reason why teenagers today do not respect elders is because dotage of parents. Indulgent
parents are responsive but undemanding and permissive. They were used to give their children
everything and anything their children want, no matter the things is needed or just their children
want.

As a parent, it is your duty to set a good example for your child and they should listen to what
their elder’s say. Parents should never use disrespectful words for the grandparents in front of
their children because children learn from what they see and if parents do not show respect to
grandparents, children will do the same.

During the adolescent years, peer influences play an important role in teenagers’ choices.
Because peer acceptance is a crucial part of most teens’ sense of self and increasing need to
separate from the family system, adolescents sometimes base their choices on their friends’
opinions, rather than what is morally right or responsible. Generally, teenagers will outgrow this
type of behavior as they reach adulthood.

Additionally, media influences, such as television and celebrity behavior can affect a teen’s
behavior, particularly if they do not have strong role models. The media portrays disrespectful
teenagers as being “cool” and therefore has contributed to this epidemic. We see more and
more disrespectful teenagers on TV because it is entertaining to watch. However, this should
not be at the expense of our future society’s behavior.

Now more than ever, teens are mimicking the disrespectful and disobedient attitude, which their
friends exhibit at school. This can mainly be seen between a student and a teacher. The same
attitude that is being used toward parents is used against school officials. Schools should
enforce more disciplinary action against these rude teens so as to make them pay for their lack
of respect. As teenagers go about their daily lives, they observe others being rude to their
friends and their parents, so they in turn do the same. The amount of peer pressure is
increasing, therefore, it results in conforming to their peers’ expectations.

The human brain continues to develop until adolescents reach their 20s. Thus, teenagers do not
have the same capacity for reasoned decision-making and self-discipline as adults. Likewise,
moral development is a process that lasts throughout adolescence. Teenagers, and in
particular, young teens, are not developmentally and biologically able to exercise moral
reasoning like an adult or older adolescent. Thus, some degree poor decision-making skills and
amoral behavior is developmentally normal.

Teens today generally lack morality, and do not realize the severity of their debauch actions.
Instead, they display extremely bad ethics and treat their immoral actions lightly. Thus,
something must be done to prevent the already worsening situation from getting any further out
of hand.
