Computer Vision Image Labelling: Top 4 Frequent Errors

1. Remember to check the IMAGE, not the text.

Concept: whitelily - lily of eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans with broad funnel-shaped white
flowers

Both images below should be marked as ‘no’.

2. Check the guidelines when to use the ‘unsure’ tag

Concept: seaplane - an airplane that can land on or take off from water

The image below contains a plane (can see the propeller) but unless you are a plane expert, you cannot
say if it is a seaplane or not and should be marked as unsure.
Concept: hippo - massive thick-skinned herbivorous animal living in or around rivers of tropical Africa

The image below doesn’t contain any depiction of an animal or part of an animal and should not have
been labelled as unsure.

3. Don’t just label images of the ‘real’ thing

Concept: hippo - massive thick-skinned herbivorous animal living in or around rivers of tropical Africa

The image below contains a cartoon depiction of a hippo and should have been selected. Other
depictions can include e.g. tattoos, nail art, models, plush toys and more.
4. Take care to check the concept definition

Concept: golfcourse - course consisting of a large landscaped area for playing golf

The image below contains golf clubs, probably taken in a photo studio, and no actual golf course is
visible. This should have been labelled ‘no’.
