3.0 EXECUTION

3.1 Field Fabrication

A. Piping

1. Welding, weld examination, and weld heat treatment shall be in strict accordance
with Marafiq Welding Specification MQ-SP-P-5029.

2. The Fabricator shall shape or bevel the joints to be field welded.

3. Adjacent sections of longitudinal welded pipe that are joined by butt welding shall
have the longitudinal weld seams positioned so that they are at least 30 degrees apart
above the horizontal centerline.

4. Wherever possible, the Fabricator shall not position the longitudinal weld seam on
the top or bottom of the line, in order to avoid locating branch connections such as
couplings and stub-ons on the seam.

B. Internal Misalignment

1. Internal misalignment shall be governed by the following criteria:

a. DN 600 (NPS 24) and smaller pipe-to-pipe or pipe-to-fitting: 1.6 mm (1/16 of an

inch) deviation.

b. DN 650 (NPS 26) and larger pipe-to-pipe or pipe-to-fitting: 3.2 mm (1/8 of an

inch) deviation.

2. If the deviation factors are exceeded, use one of the following procedures listed in
order of preference:

a. First, rotate the pipe or fittings to reduce misalignment to the acceptable

tolerances.

b. Use spreaders or internal or external lineup clamps to correct moderate out-of-

round condition.

c. Backweld the root pass.

d. Taper the wall of the component internally after obtaining approval from
Marafiq Piping Engineering, to ensure wall thickness is not reduced below the
minimum required by the code.

C. Flanges and Fittings

1. Orient flange bolt holes as follows, unless otherwise indicated on the piping
drawings:

 Flange face vertical - bolt holes to straddle vertical centerline.

 Flange face horizontal - bolt holes to straddle north-south centerline.

Note!!! The Fabricator shall ensure that this information is included on any
fabrication drawings.

2. Orifice flanges shall be fabricated with the taps in the exact orientation shown on the
piping drawings. The up and down stream sections of pipe to which the orifice
flanges are attached may be standard mill-run pipe, but each piece shall be a choice,
hand selected piece; and the interior of the pipe shall be round, smooth, and free
from blisters and scale. Welds shall be ground flush. Keep field welds at a maximum
distance from the face of the orifice.

3. Where line taps are called for, drill the hole square to the axial centerline; in
addition, make the hole clean, sharp, and free from burrs, wire edges, or other
irregularities. Drill the hole after attaching the connection fitting.

4. Weld slip-on flanges inside and outside. Refer to Figure 328.5.2B of ASME B31.3.
Apply the weld so that the flange face shall be free of weld spatter and shall not
require re-facing.

5. For acceptance criteria and evaluation of flange facing damage, refer to ASME
B16.5.

D. Reinforcing Pads

Install reinforcing pads only where called for on the piping drawing. Pad material shall be
the same as the pipe material unless otherwise authorized by Marafiq Piping Material
Engineering. The drawing shall specify size and pad thickness. Similar pad shapes are
preferred but the pad size may be altered, provided an equivalent cross-sectional area is
maintained and code requirements are met. Each pad or each piece shall have a DN 6
(NPS1/8) vent hole, drilled and tapped NPT (American National Taper Pipe Thread)
prior to installation (at the side and not at the crotch) of the pad. Each pad or each piece
(if pad is made from more than one piece) shall be pressure tested using 100 kPag
(15 psig) air. After the pressure test, fill the vent with a grease compound.

E. Non-pressure Attachments

1. Install non-pressure attachments in accordance with detail sheets as referenced on the

piping drawings. The material for non-pressure attachment welds shall be in

PWHT (Post Weld Heat Treatment). Welding on pipe which has had PWHT is not
permitted.

3. Undercutting on pipe is not permitted.

4. Special attachments shall be detailed on the drawings.

5. Unless indicated otherwise on the drawings, center the pipe insulation shoes over
pipe supports in the cold position. Locate and attach shoes, preferably after the line
has been installed.

F. Bending and Straightening

1. Correct minor deviations in dimensions before heat treatment.

2. Small residual deviations following heat treatment may be corrected only by cold
straightening after obtaining the consent of the Marafiq Inspector or Examiner. Hot
straightening after heat treatment is not permitted (except for non-pressure
attachments).

3. Piping bends, where permitted, shall be specified in Marafiq Specification MQ-SP-

P-5002.

4. Flame straightening shall be in accordance with Marafiq Welding Specification MQ-

SP-P-5029.

ASME B31.3, Paragraph 332 or ASME B31.1, Paragraph 129, as applicable.

G. Stub-On Branch Connections

Unless otherwise noted, stub-ons shall be according to ASME B31.1, Figure 127.4.8,( A), (B),
(C); and Figure 127.4.8(D) Items a or c; or ASME B31.3, Figure 328.5.4, A, B, C; and Figure
328.5.4D, Items (1) or (3); whichever is applicable.

H. Fabrication Tolerances

1. The fabrication tolerances for fabricated piping shall be in accordance with PFI
Standard ES-3. When closer tolerances are required, they shall be noted on the
piping drawing.

2. Fabrication tolerances may be exceeded to a maximum of 15 mm (1/2 of an inch) for

vent and drain connection locations, dummy support lengths, temperature
connection, or pressure tap locations, providing the deviation does not affect an
inline item.

3. The symbol FFW (Field Fit Weld) is used when the exact piping dimension cannot
be predetermined, to allow the field proper erection of two spool pieces. The
Fabricator shall add 200 mm (8 inches) to the calculated length of one of the spools
and shall terminate the same spool with a plain or flame-cut end. The field shall trim
and bevel as required. Piping drawings shall show only the calculated length.

4. The fabrication tolerances for piping over DN 600 (NPS 24) may require special
consideration. The requirements shall be reviewed for each project, with special
attention being given to lined pipe.

I. Pup-Pieces

Pup-pieces installed to make up a length shall be a minimum of 2 pipe diameters long or
