Automatic 140 lb Installation Tips

A. Step one - install lift cylinder with swing arm

1. Install ( weld) bottom cylinder ( # 53) mount

to the bottom of the right feed frame

2. Establish where the top cylinder mount will

attach to the upper feed frame
Note upper mount will most likely have
to be modified to insure hammer and cylinder
are perfectly Vertical and parallel
to the feed frame

3. Install the upper cylinder mount ( # 8) to the top of the feed frame - either bolt it
or modify and weld See pictures of various mounting used on other drills
B. Step Two - Check the Slide Tube ( # 39) length
1. Once cylinder is in place, swing the slide tube over to
the center of the feed frame- insure that once the
hammer is attached to the slide tube the hammer
will line up with the center of spindle and any hole.

The slide tube length may have

to be modified to insure proper alignment

2. Attach the tie rod assembly ( # 22) to the top of the cylinder and
the top of the swing arm
C. Weld the Hammer body to the Slide Tube

1.With the cylinder down and the Slide Tube over the hole. Position the
hammer body so that the bottom is just above the ground.
Generally the top of the slide tube will line up 4 inches from the top of the hammer

“About” 4 inches

D. Weld Hammer # 54 Travel Support ( Holster) to the bottom of the feed mast

5. Establish the position of the hammer when it is

swung off hole and into the rest position. Note
the location of the park or rest position
May be dictated by other equipment
such as catheads or hoists
E. Hydraulic System Hookup

1. The 140 pound hammer needs hydraulic power

for two functions
a. running the hydraulic motor on the hammer
b. raising the hammer off the rest position

.2 Northeast Geotech accomplishes by using

One cylinder spool valve, one hydraulic flow control
and one ball valve

3. Tap into the drill hydraulic system to draw

hydraulic power to the motor spool valve
a. plump the rear outlet to go into the
hydraulic control valve and then into
the hydraulic motor on the hammer.
Outlet from the hammer should be routed
back to the hydraulic tank

b. Plume the front outlet on the motor spool

valve to go to the ball valve. One outlet of the ball
valve goes to the bottom of the hammer lift cylinder
The second outlet on the ball valve goes back to the
hydraulic tank.

Function:
Pushing the control lever down
sends oil to the hammer motor and runs the hammer.
The flow control valve will control the speed of the
hammer

Pushing the lever on the cylinder spool up will

lift the hammer off the travel support or holster if
the ball valve directs flow to the hammer.

When the lever is down and the ball valve directs

oil to the hydraulic tank then the hammer will float down
This permits the hammer to follow the sampler as the
spt test is performed.
