I am writing to express my interest in obtaining a position as a New Graduate Registered Nurse

at the John Hopkins Hospital. As a recent graduate from the University of Arizona College of
Nursing, I recognize the importance of the transitionary period from a new graduate to a fully
competent professional nurse. The Nurse Residency Program offered at John Hopkins Hospital is
exceptionally renowned in providing a comprehensive transition-to-practice approach within a
collaborative learning environment. This program provides opportunities to refine nursing skills,
enhance knowledge, and develop professionally as a new graduate nurse – all essential
components in establishing a strong foundation when transitioning into the healthcare workforce.

The institution’s nursing vision to provide care through evidence-based practice, education, and
research is strongly reflective of my own values as a nurse. My experience with research while at
the University of Arizona has given me the necessary perspective to recognize the importance of
adapting practice to implement evidence-based changes in a rapidly evolving healthcare system,
while still recognizing the importance of providing individualized and compassionate care to
patients and their unique needs.

The diverse clinical opportunities and experiences I have had through the University of Arizona
nursing program have provided me the ability to establish essential foundational nursing skills,
utilize the nursing process to formulate individualized care plans for my patients, and provide
safe and compassionate care for patients and their families. In writing my honors thesis on “Best
practice recommendations to address healthcare barriers among refugee populations,” I
collaborated extensively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team. My experience working on
interprofessional teams throughout my experience at the College of Nursing and within the
clinical setting has allowed me to establish strong communication and delegation skills that I
believe I could effectively apply to this position.
