Subject: Venus Flytrap Poaching on Your Pender County Property

Hello Mr. Lecter,

I have followed your work with our organization for some time now, and your efforts to preserve the
natural heritage of our state are admirable. The property you oversee houses thousands of one of our
region’s treasures – the Venus flytrap. Maintaining its integrity has prevented the destruction of acres of
crucial habitat land, and this has undoubtedly saved thousands of plants over the years.
However, the results from our recent flora survey have brought another issue to our attention. There is
evidence of a substantial increase in poaching this past spring.
I have researched several poaching countermeasures utilized by conservationists around the world. This
includes a study done in conjunction with the National Park Service in Virginia. Park rangers were
consulted to identify geographical factors commonly found at poaching sites. Then, a spatial model was
developed that accurately predicted hotspots of poaching activity. These techniques can be adapted to our
current situation with the Venus flytrap.
With your permission, I would like to consult a team of our conservation specialists on this matter. Their
feedback is crucial, as they are familiar with poaching and the devastating effect it can have on species.
They are likely to have more ideas regarding the minimization of poaching outside of those previously
mentioned. Hopefully we can agree on a course of action and continue to protect the land and species that
make our state so great.
Please let me know if you are interested in implementing this proposal within the next week; my contact
information is listed below. From there we can discuss future meeting dates.

Thank you,
