GEOMETRIC SERIES
A geometric series can be found in much the same way as the arithmetic series. A corresponding
formula can be worked out.
Formula for Finite Geometric Series Formula for Infinite Geometric Series
The formula for the sum of the first n The formula for the sum of the first n
terms in a geometric sequence is terms in a geometric sequence is
a 1−a1 an a1
Sn = Where Sn is the sum S= Where a1 is the first term
1−r a1 is the first term 1−r r is the common
or r is the common ratio
a 1 ( 1−r n ) ratio, r ≠ 1 and -1 < r < 1 or /r/ < 1
Sn=
