First Aid
First aid is the first and immediate assistance given to any
person suffering from either a minor or serious illness or injury,
with care provided to preserve life, prevent the condition from
worsening, or to promote recovery

Eye Foreign Body (dust or metal,


paint, wood chips)
Cover or close eye.
Report to EHS for
evaluation.

Burns Heat/Chemical
Heat burns: Run cool water
over area for 5 minutes,
then report to SHS. If burn
area is large, cover with a
cool, wet cloth .
Chemical burns (acid or
alkaline): Flush with large
amounts of cool running
water for 15 minutes.
Bleeding/ wound care Wear clean gloves.
Cover area with gauze (or
clean paper towels).
Apply pressure to bleeding
area — have person sit or lie
down.
Eye splash chemicals Flush with lukewarm (body
temperature) running water;
turn head side to side and
have water run across both
eyes. Flush
eyes for at least 15 minutes
before going for further
treatment at Emergency
Room.

Fire Move to the vacate place.


Trigger the alarm near to
your place.
Close the door to constrain
the fire
Alert the other people
present in the lab.
Use the appropriate fire
extinguisher and firstly apply
it at the base of fire.
Try to move from smoke or
fumes.
Clothing on fire Use the safety shower
immediately on the infected
part of body.
Roll the individuals on flame.
Call to the doctor or other
supervisor who is expert to
treat.
Rinse exposed area
thoroughly with water.
Use deluge shower for 15
minutes.
Wash the infected part from
heat and chemicals
continuously 15 minutes.
In case of affected large area
remove clothing.
Medical accidents Keep calm.
Initiate lifesaving measures
if required.
Do not move person unless
there is danger of further
harm.
Call for emergency response.
Radioactive spill Allow to work in the lab to
emergency only those persons who are
well trained.
Contact to the personnel
who are aware to handle to
the affected area.
Contact to the radioactive
spill emergency.
Close doors to prevent from
being affected.
