Student Response and Assessment Tools

Lesson Idea Name: Force and Motion

Content Area: Science

Grade Level(s): Second

Content Standard Addressed: PS2A: Forces and Motions ● Objects pull or push each other when they
collide or are connected. ● Pushes and pulls can have different strengths and directions. ● Pushing or pulling
on an object can change the speed or direction of its motion and can start or stop it. ● An object sliding on a
surface or sitting on a slope experiences a pull due to friction on the object due to the surface that opposes
the object’s motion

Technology Standard Addressed: Knowledge Constructor: Evaluate the accuracy, perspective, credibility and
relevance of information, media, data or other resources

Selected Technology Tool:

☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers X Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable): https://create.kahoot.it/creator/b95056f5-b4c8-4ba2-a25b-
2b2d74044721

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

X Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☐ Phone ☐ Tablet (such as iPad)
☐ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)

Type of session:
☐ Teacher-Paced X Student-Paced

Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Level(s):

☐ Remembering X Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration:

X Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning newscast,
posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Unit on force and motion will be introduced using BrainPop and the concepts such as push and pull, motion,
distance, speed, friction, gravity, and weight will be discussed throughly. Students will participate in hands on

demonstrations and experiments with all of these concepts mentioned above. Students will make a
informational powerpoint using the concepts above.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions X Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and mastery
for ALL students) Summative assessment of content knowledge X Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

Students will receive computers from the laptop cart that teacher as secured for this activity. They will log on
to Kahoot and find the Kahoot under Force and Motion under public Kahoots. Student will do the Kahoot quiz
at their own individual pace. Teacher will circulate the classroom observing students taking the Kahoot quiz.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

X Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select X True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
https://create.kahoot.it/creator/b95056f5-b4c8-4ba2-a25b-2b2d74044721

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

X Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)

Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
X Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
After all students have completed the Kahoot quiz, then teacher will lead a class discussion to review correct
answers.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

After all students have completed the Kahoot quiz, then teacher will lead a class discussion to review correct
answers and clear up any misconceptions. Teacher will also meet with any students that need remedial
assistance in a small group to review lesson concepts.

How will the data be used?

Data will be collected and used as a formative assessment for a grade. The teacher will also use this
information to assess how close students are in mastering all concepts for the summative assessment. Data
will be also used to differentiate instruction for students who have mastered or not mastered the concepts.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.

My learning goal is to have the students respond to the quiz so that they will stay engaged as well as be able
to see their own progress in understanding the concepts being learned. I have never tried a Kahoot before as a
teacher, but have done many as a students and found them to be helpful. I learned that by designing an
assessment you have to be very consistent with your answer choices and adding a little bit of humor can make
the activity a little more enjoyable.

Reflective Practice:
I designed this activity as a data collecting evaluation for the teacher in order to assess further instruction that
is needed for my students to gain full understanding of the concepts. As a result of the data collected I will
structure differentiated learning for my students based on the quiz results. For the students that have
mastered the concept I would allow them to use Plickers or Socrative programs to work in small groups and
challenge each other with higher level thinking.
