CLT SIGNAGE & DISPLAY STANDARDS

The CLT Signage & Display Standards are enforced by the Landlord, Charlotte Douglas
International Airport (Airport), and apply to all Airport Tenants and their Sub-Tenants. These
standards address all signage, fixtures, displays, free-standing obstacles, events and promotional
materials within the passenger terminal. This includes public space and defined areas of
exclusively leased space.

Effective immediately, all Tenants are required to submit a Tenant Signage & Display Request
Form before any new signage, fixtures, displays, free-standing obstacles, events and promotional
materials are installed. Each Tenant must provide at least 15 days advance notice for approval
process.

Effective April 15, 2011, all existing signage, fixtures, displays, free-standing obstacles, events
and promotional materials must be compliant with the CLT Signage & Display Standards.

CLT SIGNAGE & DISPLAY GUIDELINES


The below guidelines apply to all Airport Tenants and their Sub-Tenants.

1. Tenant acknowledges the Airport’s desire to maintain a high level of aesthetic quality and
clarity of messaging throughout the terminal.

2. All signs and displays must be maintained in good condition. Any which is not
maintained in good condition by the Tenant will be removed by the Airport.

3. Tenant will ensure that the posted information on the sign is current and accurate.
When sign information becomes outdated or inaccurate, it shall be removed by the
Tenant.

4. Computer printed and handwritten signs are prohibited. All signs must be professionally
produced unless approved by the Airport.

5. Banners, flags or flashing/blinking signs are not allowed for any reason.

6. All Tenants are required to submit a Tenant Signage & Display Request Form before any
new signage, fixtures, and displays are installed. Each Tenant must provide at least 15
days advance notice for approval process. If a sign is required immediately, the Tenant
must notify the Airport in writing and obtain approval.

7. When a Tenant is hosting or sponsoring a special event in any of the public areas of the
terminal, permission must be obtained by using the Tenant Signage & Display Request
Form.

8. Walls, floors and millwork are not to be drilled or altered in any way without written
permission by the Airport.

9. Advertising and marketing materials/events of any nature are prohibited unless approved
by the Airport. Requests must be submitted via the Tenant Signage & Display Request
Form. Advertising and marketing materials/events are defined as anything intended to
promote a specific product or service.

AIRLINES

A. TICKET LOBBY AND CURBSIDE CHECK-IN AREA


QUEUING AREA/CIRCULATION AREA

1. Within the Ticket Lobby, the parameters of an airline’s Queuing Area are 15 feet 6 inches
deep, starting at the face of the ticket counter. This is equivalent to four terrazzo floor
squares (two gray squares and two white squares) starting at the face of the ticket
counter.

SIGNAGE, FIXTURES, DISPLAYS & FREE-STANDING OBSTACLES

1. All signage, displays and free-standing obstacles, such as bag sizing devices, baggage
scales, etc. shall be contained within the Queuing Area, unless another location is
approved by the Airport.
2. Stanchions used in the Queuing Area shall have a post height no higher than 42” and
shall all match within a single Queuing Area.
3. The Airport’s required method for displaying signage is to be mounted to the top of an
in-use stanchion used in the Queuing Area with a sign size of 11” x 14”. Federal required
signs are exempt. If the Tenant does not use stanchions in its Queuing Area, free-
standing signage is permitted, with a sign size of 11” x 14”. If using free-standing sign
holders, all holders must match and be consistent throughout the Tenant’s entire
Queuing Area.
4. Each Tenant is allowed one tall sign within its Queuing Area, dimensions include a post
height of 72” with a sign size of 11” x 14”.
5. Federal required signage shall be displayed using the TSA’s “Checked Baggage Combo”
sign, measuring 22” x 28”. This sign informs passengers of federal rules and regulations.
6. For duplicate signs within a single Queuing Area, there should be a minimum of three
terrazzo floor squares of separation.
7. There shall be a minimum of one terrazzo floor square between any two signs in a
Queuing Area.
8. Promotional signs, banners, literature and advertising materials are prohibited from being
located or displayed.
9. Tenant is allowed to display flight arrival and departure information on back-wall.
Tenant’s name and or logo and shared partnerships are permitted (Star Alliance, Code
Share Agreements, etc.).
10. Flat screens and LCDs are allowed. Attaching/taping information such as posters, signs,
etc. to these devices is prohibited. Information displayed on the screen is a set design in
accordance with the Airport’s branding guidelines.
11. Exposed mounting devices for signage, such as adhesive tape, push pins, etc. is
prohibited. All signs shall be professionally displayed and mounted using a blind
fastener.
12. No signage is allowed on the face of the check-in counter, unless approved by the
Airport.
13. Physically altering/changing the counter or counter surface is prohibited (i.e.,
drilling/nailing holes).

14. Tenant signage on terminal exterior walls or windows is prohibited unless approved by
the Airport as part of Curbside check-in.
15. Tables for bag tag distribution may be used within the Queuing Area. The tables shall be
4’ long and one table per Queuing Area is permitted.

ELECTRONIC TICKET MACHINES

1. Electronic Ticket Machines will be located either as a part of the ticket counter proper or
in the Queuing Area as approved by the Airport.
2. It is also acceptable to place machines in a cluster configuration or on a freestanding
counter provided that the overall design including material samples are submitted for
approval by the Airport.
3. Machines can have a logo or airline name on the body of the machine in addition to what
appears on the screen, but for no reason can it have a sign attached to it, unless
approved by the Airport.

MISCELLANEOUS

1. All wheelchairs must be stored in provided storage locations, defined by the Airport.
These storage areas should be maintained in an orderly fashion by the Tenant. The
provided storage locations include:
• US Airways: Adjacent to Security Checkpoint C in designated location.
• Charlotte Skycaps: Adjacent to Security Checkpoint A in designated location.
• Continental, Lufthansa and JetBlue: Behind ticket counter.

B. CONCOURSE AND GATE AREA

1. Airlines shall not alter the Leased Premises in any way whatsoever or erect any signs of
any nature unless approved by the Airport.
2. No signage is allowed on the gate counter or its back-wall except for airline name, logo
and LED/LCD display unless approved by Airport.
3. No free standing signage is allowed in the gate area.
4. No signage shall be posted on the gate columns.
5. Advertising and marketing materials/events of any nature are prohibited unless approved
by the Airport. Requests must be submitted via the Tenant Signage & Display Request
Form. Advertising and marketing materials/events are defined as anything intended to
promote a specific product or service.
6. All signs must be maintained in a good condition for the duration of the display. Any such
signage which is not maintained in good condition by the Tenant will be removed by the
Airport.

C. BAGGAGE CLAIM AREA

BAGGAGE CLAIM SERVICE OFFICE

1. To identify each Baggage Service Office (BSO), each Tenant with a BSO will display the
company name on the door-front or in an Airport approved location beside the door. This

identifier signage shall be no larger than 24” x 24” or 36” x 36”, unless approved by the
Airport.
2. Each Tenant with a BSO will post the following on the door-front/entrance:
o Office hours of operation
o Contact information in the event the office is closed, i.e. “Please visit our ticket
counter located upstairs” or “Please call 704-359-XXXX for assistance.”
3. All signs must be professionally produced unless approved by the Airport. Handwritten
and computer printed signs are strictly prohibited.

BAGGAGE CLAIM AREA

1. Each Tenant utilizing a baggage carousel is allowed one wall-mounted sign, per carousel,
which only identifies the Tenant’s company name and/or logo. Sign size and design must
be approved by the Airport.
2. No signs shall be allowed on the columns in the baggage claim areas.
3. Free-standing signs of any nature are not permitted in the baggage claim area.

CONCESSIONS

A. GENERAL SIGNAGE, FIXTURES AND DISPLAYS

1. Tenant shall have the right to install and operate, within the leased premises only, at
the Tenant’s sole cost and expense, signs containing its name and representing its
business, as well as the Tenant’s standard promotional materials.
2. Tenant shall not place or install any racks, stands, trade fixtures, pedestal signs or other
displays and products outside the boundaries of the leased premises. All signage, fixtures
and displays must be contained within the leased premises.
3. Tenant shall immediately remove or modify any signs that do not conform.
4. Tenant is allowed to place one ‘flag’ sign per venue (Aviation Director shall approve
mounting location) that is attached to the column. Total sign shall not be more than 36”
off wall, the lower edge of sign shall be more than 78” from floor. The sign itself shall fit
within a 30” x 30” square (tight to wall).

B. PROMOTIONAL SIGNAGE, FIXTURES AND DISPLAYS


1. Each concession will receive equal promotional opportunities through the Airport’s
“Shop, Dine, Work, Relax!” terminal directory map, which features each concession’s
location and logo. Please be aware that the artwork (map) within the directories will not
be reprinted every time there is a concession change due to costs. On average, the
artwork is reprinted twice yearly.
2. Special promotional events (sidewalk sales, book signings, etc.) will be approved on a
case by case basis by the Airport by submitting the Tenant Signage & Display Request
Form.

SECURITY CHECKPOINTS

A. QUEUING AREA/CIRCULATION AREA

1. The security checkpoint Queuing Areas are not exclusive leased space to any Tenant and
therefore fall under the Airport’s authority including stanchion placement, lane formation,
signage, displays and all free standing obstacles (tables, podiums, etc.).
2. All airlines and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) shall request approval
from the Airport prior to altering the Queuing Area and its contents.
3. The Queuing Area will be inspected on a daily basis by the Airport to ensure all free
standing obstacles are in the designated location.

B. EXIT LANES

1. The Airport will provide all exit lanes with a two-sided sign indicating the security
checkpoint closing time and “Do Not Enter”.
2. It is TSA’s responsibility to ensure the closing time remains accurate. When a time
change occurs, the TSA is to provide written notice to the Airport immediately to request
for the sign to be updated; 15 days notice is required.
3. No Tenant, airline or TSA shall place any signs at the exit lanes or the areas leading up
to the exit lanes. This includes free-standing directional signs to baggage claim, smoking
areas, etc.

C. SIGNAGE, DISPLAYS & FREE-STANDING OBSTACLES


1. All signage, displays and free-standing obstacles shall be contained with the Queuing
Area, unless another location is approved by the Airport
2. The Airport’s required method for displaying signage is to be mounted to the top of an
in-use Queuing Area stanchion with a sign size of 11” x 14”.
3. Stanchions used in the Queuing Area shall have a post height no higher than 42” and
shall all match within a single Queuing Area.
4. Exposed mounting devices for signage, such as adhesive tape, are not permitted. All
signs shall be professionally displayed and mounted using a blind fastener.
5. For duplicate signs within a Queuing Area, there should be a minimum of three “terrazzo

between any two signs in a Queuing Area.
6. All Checkpoint Mailer box locations are determined by the Airport and shall be placed
within the checkpoint area.

by the Airport. Requests must be submitted via the Tenant Signage & Display Request
Form. Advertising and marketing materials/events are defined as anything intended to
promote a specific product or service.
