Ready-mix concrete: Ready-mix concrete is concrete that is

manufactured in a factory or batching plant, according to a set recipe,

and then delivered to a work site by truck mounted in–transit mixers.
This results in a precise mixture, allowing specialty concrete mixtures to
.be developed and implemented on construction sites

Batching Plant: A concrete plant, also known as a batch

plant or batching plant or a concrete batching plant, is equipment that
combines various ingredients to form concrete. There are two main
types of concrete plants: Dry mix plants and Wet mix plants, and also
plants that contain both a transit mix side and a central mix side while
.utilizing common material storage points

 How is RMC made?

RMC is specifically manufactured for delivery to the customer's
construction site in a freshly mixed and plastic or unhardened state.
Concrete itself is a mixture of Portland cement, water and aggregates
comprising sand and gravel or crushed stone. Ready-mix concrete is
.bought and sold by volume

Transit Mixer: A concrete mixer is a device that homogeneously

combines cement, aggregate such as sand or gravel, and water to
form concrete. A typical concrete mixer uses a revolving drum to mix the
.components

 Advantages of RMC?
1. Quality assured concrete.
2. High speed of construction.
3. Reduction in cement consumption by 10 – 12 % due to better
handling and proper mixing.
4. Versatility in uses and methods of placing.
5. Environment pollution is reduced due to less production of cement.
6. Better durability of structure.
7. Timely deliveries in large as well as small pours.
8. No delay due to site based batching plant.
 Disadvantages of RMC?
1. The materials are batched at a central plant, and the mixing
begins at that plant, so the traveling time from the plant to the
site is critical over longer distances. Some sites are just too far
away, however the use of admixtures like retarder can be added.
2. Concrete's limited time span between mixing and curing means
that ready-mix should be placed within 210 minutes of batching at
the plant.

 Can water be added to RMC on site?

One addition of water is permitted on the job provided such addition
does not increase the water-cement ratio above the maximum
permitted by the specifications.

 What is the duration for which ready mixed concrete

remains usable?
According to ASTM C-94, the discharge of ready mix concrete shall be
completed within 1 ½ hours after the introduction of the mixing water to
the cement and aggregates.
