que las frases verbales impersonales en presente con la diferencia que estan en pasado.

siginificado:
there was:habia, hubo.
there were: habian, hubieron
Formula: there + was/were + complemento.

ejemplo:

Como ves, para formar el presente continuo utilizamos el verbo to be como auxiliar, y el verbo
principal en gerundio. Lo importante es saber construir el gerundio, y una vez hecho esto,
intercalar el verbo to be para utilizarlo como auxiliar.
PRESENTE CONTINUO

Uso del presente continuo

Este tiempo verbal podemos usarlo para expresar distintas cosas; y en diferentes circunstancias:

1. Para referirnos a acciones que se están desarrollando en el mismo momento en el que


se habla.

Yo estoy leyendo un libro (en
este preciso instante)

2. Tambien utilizamos el presente continuo para describir cosas que suceden alrededor
del momento al que estamos hablando.

She is studying English -> Ella está esstudiando inglés (no precisamente ahora)

Podemos usar el presente continuo para referirnos a acciones que se vienen produciendo
con cierta frecuenca

You are always working -> Estás siempre trabajando (lo hace
frecuentemente)
Negación e interrogación del presente continuo

Para negar el presente continuo tenemos que colocar la partícula not entre el auxiliar y el
verbo principal. Para hacer preguntas tenemos que poner primero el auxiliar y después el
pronombre personal.

EJEMPLO:

 Im not sleeping at the moment, she is not dancing/ laughing, they are not laughing

Today is Saturday. It was a very long week full of work and sacrifices. But you know what? Today is
different because it is my birthday! My family and I are celebrating this special day. As you can see
in this photo, we are eating pizza and drinking soda!, that´s my favorite food. My father is wearing a

Guy's Experience at Heathrow

At the airline check in at London Heathrow, Michael has three bags. He puts them down and
says to the young lady, “ I'd like you to send this one to Los Angeles, that one to Hong Kong and
the last one to Durban.” Her face shows signs of confusion before her training takes over and
she says, “ I'm afraid we can't do that, sir.”

“ Why not?' demands Guy, 'you did the last time I flew with you.” I have the picture!

Nobel Prize

Bob is walking down a country road when he spots Farmer Harris standing in the middle of a huge
field of corn doing absolutely nothing. Bob, curious to find out what's happening, walks all the way
out to the farmer and asks him, “ Excuse me Farmer Harris, could you tell me what you are you
doing?”
“ I'm trying to win a Nobel Prize,” the farmer replies.
“ A Nobel Prize? ” enquires Bob, puzzled. “ How? “
“ Well, I heard they give the Nobel Prize to people who are out standing in their field.”

Story About an Early Morning Drunk

Rodney and his wife Wilma are awakened at 3 o'clock early one Saturday morning by a loud
pounding on the door. Rodney gets up and goes to the door where he sees a drunken stranger,
standing in the pouring rain. “Give us a push” says the swaying stranger. “Not a chance”, says the
husband, “It is three o' clock in the morning.” He slams the door and returns to bed. “Who was
that?” asked his wife. “Just some drunk guy asking for a push”, he answers.
“Did you help him?” Wilma asks. “No. I did not. It is three o' clock in the morning and it is pouring
with rain outside.
His wife said, “Don't you remember about three months ago when we broke down and those two
guys helped us? I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself.
Rodney does as he is told, gets dressed and goes out into the pouring rain. He calls out into the
dark,“ Hello! Are you still there? “Yes”, comes back the answer.

“Do you still need a push?” calls out Rodney. “Yes. Please.” comes the reply from the darkness.
“Where are you?” asks Rodney.
“Over here on the swing”, replies the drunk.

READING ACTIVITY PRESENT CONTINUOUS

Today is Saturday and the Johnsons family is at home. Mr. Johnson is still in bed because he is
reading the newspaper and having a cup of coffee, too. His wife, Mrs. Johnson is downstairs in the
kitchen making breakfast for the whole family. She´s stirring the eggs and the chocolate. She´s also
watching an interesting tv program especially designed for mothers. Their children are Michaela,
Carolyn and Patrick.

Michaela is sleeping because she stayed up late last night because she was invited to a party.
Carolyn is making her bed, cleaning the bedroom and doing the laundry, too. She usually does it on
weekends because she doesn´t have any free time during the week. Patrick is taking a shower then
he´s going to practice with his American football team because they´re playing an important match
tomorrow. The dog, fiddle, is chasing the cats and the birds in the back yard.
