Etailed Lesson Plan Using The 4a's:: Teacher's Activity Student's Activity
I. Objectives:
At the end of the discussion, the learners will be able to:
a) State the Legal Basis of Classroom Assessment for the K
to 12 Basic Education (BEP)
b) Discuss Theoretical Basis of Classroom Assessment for
the K-12 BEP
c) Define Classroom Assessment and Zone of Proximal
Development
II. Content
The Theoretical Basis of Classroom Assessment for the K to
12 Basic Education Program (BEP)
B.2. Main Activity
The class will group into 5 members each then they will
discuss to each other what are their thoughts about the
Saying “NO MAN IS AN ISLAND” by John Donne.
Is this applicable in classroom? How?
GROUP PRESENTATION
Put your answers in a one whole sheet of paper. And
choose one to present your output.

C. Analysis
1. Base on the activity, is it true that teachers and learners Answers may vary
must work together?
Thank you for your answers.
Yes, it is true that teachers and learners must work together
because if there will be no teachers what will be taught (Listening attentively)
inside the classroom? Self-experiences? Own talents?
As we grow old, we were taught by our parents how to walk
right? They patiently taught us to walk step by step and as
we are learning, we learn to walk by ourselves.
Just like in our classroom, teachers are patiently teaching us
a certain topic, they guide us until we understand the topic.
Such way, teachers guide us throughout the process,
meaning they give us the support that we need in achieving
our learning goals.
This now comes the concept of Zone of Proximal
Development
which was recognized by the Dep Ed. Order 8 s. 2015 or the
Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K to 12
Basic Education Program (BEP).
B. During the Lesson
Teacher's Activity Student's Activity
In line with the implementation of the Enhanced Basic (Listening attentively)
Education Act of 2013 (R.A. 10533), the Department of
Education is adopting the enclosed Policy Guidelines on
Classroom Assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education
Program (BEP) or the DepEd Order No. 8 of 2015.
Effective for the School Year 2015-2016.
And shall be implemented in both Public elementary
and secondary schools nationwide.
This Policy guidelines was also implemented by the
Non-DepEd schools which they can modify according
to their school's Philosophy, mission and vision with the
approval of the appropriate DepEd Regional Office.
Theoretical Basis
Before we discuss what is Classroom Assessment
Under this DepEd Order No 8 s. 2015, The Zone of
Proximal Development was mentioned.
What is Zone of Proximal Development?
Zone of Proximal Development was the study of
a Russian Developmental Psychologist, Lev Vygotzky.
And ZPD was his biggest contribution in the field
of Education.
He said that ZPD is the distance between the actual
developmental level as determined by independent
problem solving and the level of potential development
as determined through problem solving under adult
guidance, or in collaboration with more capable peers.
This means that this concept refers to the difference
between learner's ability to perform a task independently
versus with guidance of the teacher or peers.
ZPD is useful concept for teachers because it ensures
that the students are learning in their ZPD, teachers must
provide new opportunities for students to work slightly
beyond their current skills provide ongoing scaffolded
support to all students.
ZONE OF
PROXIMAL
CAN DEVELOPMENT CANNOT
Target zone, educators help the student to learn new
concepts using skills a student already has.
To apply the concept of ZPD, teachers instruct in small
steps according to the tasks a child is already able to do
independently. This strategy is referred to as SCAFFOLDING
The teacher should also support and assist the child until
he/she can complete all the steps independently.
SCAFFOLDING
this is not a theory that Vygotzy developed but because
of his theory on ZPD.
Scaffolding is a teaching method that helps students learn
more by working with a teacher or a more advanced
student to achieve their learning goals.
Meaning, it refers to the support given to the learner who
is attempting to learn something new in the ZPD.
