Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Circuit

Circuit Description:
The accelerator pedal position sensor is attached to the accelerator pedal. The accelerator pedal position sensor sends
a signal to the electronic control module (ECM) when the accelerator pedal is depressed and released. The accelerator
pedal position circuit contains three wires: Accelerator Pedal Position Supply, Accelerator Pedal Position Return, and
Accelerator Pedal Position Signal.

Component Location:
The accelerator pedal position sensor is mounted to the accelerator pedal assembly.

Shop Talk:
If troubleshooting an intermittent accelerator problem:
The accelerator pedal position sensor signal voltage can be monitored with the INSITE™ electronic service tool, while
flexing the harness to locate the intermittent connection. Intermittent connections will show up as abrupt changes in
signal voltage displayed by INSITE™.
Possible causes of this fault include:
• Accelerator pedal position signal shorted to engine ground or return wires in the OEM harness or sensor.
• Failed accelerator pedal position sensor.
