knob on bedroom side. When the 2 bedrooms are let to different guests, the doors are locked. -

4 MOBILE WALLS
ACOUSTIC CRITERIA :
X X X In situ minimum performance to comply with Acoustic chapter of present document
X X X Acoustic barrier above wall suspension tracks are necessary to avoid noise transmission through ceiling void.

SOUNDPROOFING AND LOCKING MECHANISM OF PANELS

5.1 BALUSTRADES IN AREAS ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC

X X X Minimum height 1m

X X X When railing is horizontal, then panels must be included in the lower section of the balustrade in order to prevent climbing.
Subject to more demanding local standards, balustrades must at least resist to a linear effort applied at the level of the
X X X highest bar, at 1 kN/m for balconies or loggias and 1,5 kN/m for terraces, escape routes, stands and, generally, at locations
where there is a risk of jostling.
X X X The opaque or clear filling panels must resist to shocks of soft or hard objects defined by international construction standards.

X X X Safety glazing required for balustrades are subject to European and international standards EN 356 - EN 572 - EN 12150 and EN
ISO 12543-2

5.2 HANDRAILS IN STAIRS

X X X Stair handrails must comply with the accessibility standards for persons with reduced mobility and the visually impaired
defined hereunder but subject to more demanding local standards.

X X X Balustrades must be installed on both sides of the stairs in order to be held with either the left or the right hand.

Balustrade characteristics:
X X X Easy gripping, rounded top part
X X X Sufficient spacing between the handrail and the wall
X X X Colour to contrast with the walls
Materials :
X X X Painted steel tube, stainless steel or anodised aluminium
X X X Coloured plastic or metal strip
X X X Hard wood finely sanded and varnished
X X X Handrails must project by at least 300 mm beyond the first and the last step of the landings

X X X Central handrails must be continuous and with rounded angles in order for a person to keep holding them on the landings

5.3 EQUIPEMENT FOR MAINTENANCE ACCESSES

X X X Access through a stair is compulsory for all major plant areas and technical terraces. It is recommended for flat roofs.

X X X Access through a step ladder with balustrade is only allowed for areas subject to infrequent interventions)

X X X Access using a ladder is not advisable. It must be restricted to only a few specific cases with exceptional interventions.

Balustrades are required as soon as the height of a possible fall exceeds 500 mm. They must have a minimum height of 1100
X X X mm and include a foot guard of 100 mm and an intermediate rail.(Alternative safety systems such as life line cable may be
appropriate for inclined areas)

X X X All access means or systems must comply with applicable ISO-EN norms, in particular for ladders, platforms, stairs, balustrades
used for maintenance purposes.

5.4 METALLIC FIRE DOORS

X X X Those doors are applicable to technical plant areas, refuse areas, car parks and various particular cases such as doors next to
an emergency exit door leading to outside.

X X X The whole of the door set with its equipment must be certified for the required fire resistance class (according to the
Euroclasses E or EI 30 to 120 minutes).

5.5 HORIZONTAL EXTERIOR GRILLES

These grilles where public or staff may walk over will be in grating, mesh 20 x 20 mm (wheelchair accessibility standards to be
X X X complied with) fixed on a perimeter frame made in L sections with T transversal sections, the whole in steel protected by
galvanisation.

X X X They will comply with the required operational loads according to traffic at the location where they are situated.

6 FLOOR COVERINGS
FLOOR SLIPPERINESS

X X X Compliance with slipperiness requirement table for each type of room or area in the hotel (Public areas and service areas)

INSULATION FROM IMPACT NOISE ON FLOORS

X X X Performance requirements as specified in Acoustic section of Novotel document

X X X “Hard” floorings such as timber floors, laminate, tiling, stone in bedrooms must be laid on a resilient system such as floating
floor.

The floor of an area at a level below or above guest bedrooms must be insulated from impact noise transmission when its
X X X structural slab can transmit vibrations to the structures. (Examples : Kitchen, delivery area, refuse/garbage room, bar,
restaurant…)

X X X When a « hard » floor is laid in the bedroom entrance area in continuation of the bathroom, then a floating floor shall be
required

THRESHOLDS
X X X Tiled floors must always be terminated with a stainless steel or brass or aluminium profile or threshold strip

STAIRS ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC

X X X The steps of stairs must get an aluminium or brass nosing with a strong mechanical fixing and an anti-slippery lining (self-
adhesive PVC or metal nosing are to be excluded).
Recommendations for the visually impaired:

X X X On landings and semi-landings, the floor must catch the vigilance from 0.50 m from the 1st nosing by a visual and tactile
contrast of the flooring: Material of different texture (example: grained or grooved floor)
X X X Nosings must be of contrasted colour

7 SUSPENDED CEILINGS
HEALTH PROTECTION

X X X When a ceiling void is used as a ventilation ducting (intake or extraction) it must not contain any material susceptible of
releasing fibres or dust in the air.

FIXINGS
X X X The resistance to traction of the hangers must be sized with a safety factor ≥ 3
X X X The possible failing of one hanger must not result in the fall of ceilings components.

X X X Suspended ceilings must resist, without neither motion nor dislocation, to positive and negative pressures that could occur
occasionally (wind, draughts, mechanical ventilation, mechanical smoke extraction, etc.).

X X X Air ducts, cable trays, lighting fittings and piping or other elements located in ceiling voids or in attics must have their own
hangers and fixings independent from those of suspended ceilings.

8 DECORATION WORKS AND WALL COVERINGS

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

X X X Solvent based paints should only be used when technically required: Anti-rust paints or Glossy polyurethane paints or Glossy
epoxy paints
