General Directions: (Pls. read before you start the exam)

1. No permit, No ID, No exam.
2. Use blue or black ink only.
3. Exam duration is 1.5 hour
4. Mobile phone or any electronic gadget is not allowed while the exam is going on.
5. Anyone caught cheating in any form shall have zero mark in this exam.
6. Conversation in any language is prohibited.
7. Leaving the room while the exam is going on is strictly prohibited.
8. Do not write anything on the test questionnaire; write the answers in the test booklet.
9. Read and follow the instructions of each type of test very carefully.
10. Incident report made by assigned proctor/s is a sufficient ground for disciplinary actions.
I.IDENTIFICATION (1pt each)
1. What is the required gradient in the pneumatic distribution system pipelines?
2. What is the range of speed of a pneumatic piston?
3. What pneumatic ports are designated as output ports?
4. What are the different types of pressure valves? (1pt each)
5. What are the different types of air drying technique? (1pt each)

II. APPLICATION
1. Design the equivalent pneumatic circuit diagram based on the given system
specifications and name all the devices used with proper port labels (15pts each).

Crushing of Tin Cans: In a recycling plant tin cans are to be crushed into a block for
space-saving storage. Initially, the pressing cylinder must be at the retracted end
position. The pressing operation is to be triggered by means of a pushbutton and if the
system pressure is at above 6bar. The return stroke is triggered by a timer set at 3s after
reaching the forward end position or it can be triggered manually since, depending on
material load, the pressing cylinder may not reach the forward end position. Extension
speed is controlled and retraction is very fast.
