May Madness!!
DEAR ROOM 205 FAMILIES
In the month of May, our class will be exploring
many new topics. The curriculum will be new
to the child, and in some cases, new to the
family. Here is an idea of what topics will be
covered within my designated subjects.
• Science:
-The needs and characteristics of
animals.
-Interaction within an animal’s distinct
environment.
• Math:
-Simple Geometry including new
vocabulary such as “angles”, “faces”,
and “vertices”.
-Describing characteristics of two and
three dimensional shapes.
-And Much more!!
Important Dates for May:
• May 7th- Camouflage project due
• May 15th- Zoo Field trip
• May 21st- My Town project due
• May 28th- Test Day: Math and Science
• May 29th- LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!!
“Bugs Life” movie day!
SPECIAL PROJECTS
Camouflage Project: Each student will be
responsible for creating a paper insect that will
blend in with a part of our classroom. For
example, the student may select my desk so
they would then color their insect to blend in
with my desk. The child cannot tell the other
students their idea. On the due date, the class
will step outside as the student places their
insect. The class will then enter the room and
hunt for the student’s project. This teaches the
value of camouflage to an insect when it
comes to being protected from predators.
My Town Project: Each student will be required
to find 10 examples of our recently discussed
geometric shapes within the community. The
child must capture their findings within a
photograph and present them to the class on
the assigned due date. Their presentation can
be digital and emailed to me for presentation
day. Students may also use poster board or
any other physical presenting material.
Note: If there are any concerns with any aspect
of the projects please contact me as soon as
possible so we can work out the best outcome
for your child. In the past, I have provided
throw away cameras with a poster board for
students needing assistance. There are always
options in my classroom and parents, or their
children, are not alone!
