NUTRITIONAL AND NON

NUTRITIONAL FOODS
UNHEALTHY FOODS
WHY IT SHOULD NOT BE EATEN BY TEENAGERS?
-Eating high amounts of sodium and low amounts of potassium may lead to depression
among teenagers, a new study found. ... High sodium levels may reflect the consumption of
processed, unhealthy foods, the researchers noted. Low potassium levels indicate a lack of
vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fish and poultry.
1) SUGARY DRINKS
Sugary drinks (also categorized as sugar-sweetened beverages or “soft” drinks) refer to any beverage
with added sugar or other sweeteners (high fructose corn syrup, sucrose, fruit juice concentrates, and
more). This includes soda, pop, cola, tonic, fruit punch, lemonade (and other “ades”), sweetened
powdered drinks, as well as sports and energy drinks.

As a category, these beverages are the single largest source of calories and added sugar in the U.S. diet.
[1, 2] In other parts of the world, particularly developing countries, sugary drink consumption is rising
dramatically due to widespread urbanization and beverage marketing.

2) JUNK FOOD
Junk food is unhealthful food that is high in calories from sugar or fat, with
little dietary fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals, or other important forms of nutritional value.
Precise definitions vary by purpose and over time. Some high-protein foods, like meat prepared
with saturated fat, may be considered junk food.

3) PIZZAS

 Carbohydrates: 33g
 Fiber: 2g
 Sugars: 4g
 Protein: 13g
Pizza calories and nutrition can vary substantially based on the toppings, the cooking method, the
crust and the size of the pizza slice. A very small slice (1/8th of the whole pizza) of cheese
pizza provides only about 168 calories . But a typical slice of cheese pizza from many popular
pizza chains is usually 1/5th of the pie (127 grams or more) and is more likely to provide 250
calories or more. A single 10-ounce slice of Costco pepperoni pizza provides over 600 calories,
according to several sources.

4) Fried, grilled, or broiled food

However, up to 40% of B vitamins and minerals may be lost during grilling or broiling when
the nutrient-rich juice drips from the meat. There are also concerns about polycyclic aromatic
hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are potentially cancer-causing substances that form when meat
is grilled and fat drips onto a hot surface.
Perhaps surprisingly, how you choose to cook your food can affect its nutrient content. ... For
example, the protein in cooked eggs is 180% more digestible than that of raw
eggs ... Frying involves cooking food in a large amount of fat — usually oil — at a high
temperature.

Protein
Meat — such as beef — is mainly composed of protein.
The protein content of lean, cooked beef is about 26–27% (2Trusted Source).
Animal protein is usually of high quality, containing all nine essential amino acids needed for the
growth and maintenance of your body (3).
As the building blocks of proteins, amino acids are very important from a health perspective.
Their composition in proteins varies widely, depending on the dietary source.
Meat is one of the most complete dietary sources of protein, its amino acid profile being almost
identical to that of your own muscles.
For this reason, eating meat — or other sources of animal protein — may be of particular benefit
after surgery and for recovering athletes. In combination with strength exercise, it also helps
maintain and build muscle mass
HOW WILL YOU RECOMMEND THE HEALTHY FOODS TO TEENS?
