Roald Dahl Exploration

I have created an interactive poster on the iconic children’s author, Roald Dahl,
aimed towards students from 4th-6th grade. There are many hyperlinked activities that
this poster can be utilized in many different ways. To begin, our EL’s will have many
different activities to be able to choose from when analyzing the poster. Each book is
hyperlinked with different mediums of storytelling that book. For example, Matilda is
linked to an excerpt from the play written based off of the book; whereas, James and
the Giant Peach is linked to a movie trailer for the movie based off of the book. This
includes visual and audio perspectives from the EL’s. There is also a virtual museum
tour through the Roald Dahl museum. The students are able to navigate through the
museum from Google Maps and look around and zoom in on what they find interesting.
Ideally, I would pair the students together with the EL’s and have them go through the
poster together on one device. This allows the EL’s to be able to go through it with a
friend and have someone to discuss their findings with.
In regards to the whole class, I would facilitate exploring the interactive poster
individually. I want the students to explore what they find most interesting first and
pursue it. As the teacher, I would introduce the poster and how it works then let the
students journey through the poster themselves. After the students are finished, we can
put them into partners or small groups to discuss their findings and what they liked
most. This can easily be pair with Roald Dahl based literature circles in the classroom.
Every group can be reading different Dahl books and then as a whole class, we go
through the interactive poster together.
Finally, another way to use the poster in the classroom could be for an author
appreciation. The poster could be station amongst many that appreciated different
authors. The students, in small groups, can go around the classroom and delve into
children’s literature authors amongst many genres.
All in all, there is many different way to present the interactive poster with
students. It includes many different parts from the social media links to Dahl’s profiles to
food fighting games! It’s a poster able to keep students interested and engaged in
author exploration.
