Subject Title: LITERATURE OF THE PHILIPPINES Semester: Second Semester Term: FINALS EXAMINATION SY: 2019-2020 I. Make your own poem on your experience and learning on the COVID-19 pandemic. Consider the elements in poetry Out of Hands Silly little laughs, hugging with your friends Holding each others hand seems not to end Together we eat, story telling if we must, This I thought will never last
A sudden change had happened
People don't know what to do I as a medical student had my head up high because I knew I thought I know enough, I thought I I can But things got out of my little hands
Corona virus had broken, killed a million lives
I panicked, I cried, I feared I won't survive I focused on the outside that I forgot what's inside I thought I'm surviving but I am dying inside
Got requirements to do, deadlines to meet, sighing
My hands automatically writing, without me learning I thought I know enough, I thought I can, But learnings got out of my little hands
I felt alone, as if everyone left me
It seems I'm the only one busy Will this end? Can i still go outside? But I still want to lose what's killing me inside RIA ELRICA P. DAYAG

Sadness has succumb me realizing I'm not good enough
Dreams now seem to be really tough I thought I know enough, I thought I can But my dreams are shattering out of my hand
It's when I realize my priority before
My studies, my dreams I just need to explore Though sadness is there, but happiness, too It is always within us, we just need to explore it too
Things are hard now, harder than before
But I believe we'll have COVID and sadness free galore I thought I know enough, I thought I can That's why I am doing everything to achiever my dreams with my hand. II. The theme of the story “Footnote to Youth” is about teenage pregnancy. Consider the situation of our teenagers nowadays, have a reaction paper on that particular topic. Teenage pregnancy has been one of the most alarming issues that the world is facing right now. With the surging effects of social media that draws the innocence of the youth and exposes it to different kind of sexual acts because of their access to the internet have been one of the main reason of the fluctuating number of pregnancy cases in the Philippines. This scenario has been experienced by Dodong and Teang enabling them to marry at such a young age. It is just an eye-opening moment when their parents have been supportive of their strength of facing the consequences of their actions instead of condemning of their deeds just like how other parents are doing today. Indeed, parent’s response to the experiences of their children really affect their children’s life because I believe that parents have really big effect on the different milestone of their children. Though it is not okay to have teenage pregnancy (if not responded well, parents have such a big impact to the parents to be. As it is, “Footnote to the Youth” has become an eye opener on its own for making us see the reality of the world today. It is a reminder to al of us that we just need to be responsible of the RIA ELRICA P. DAYAG

III. Give the lesson/s you can attribute to the following poems/songs: -Flowers of May Flowers of May is all about reminiscing the dead sister of the persona in the poem which is Victoria. It talks about the youthful days of the dead that has gone pass bye. This poem tells us that there are things that may not be earthly today but there are also things that will always remind them to us and will forever feel their presence even if they already departed. -The Bashful One The Bashful One has been a tricky literature because a single comma can have a lot of meaning but can give a striking life lesson. It teaches us that sometimes we need to let of the things we thought we can’t to see things that we know we can because being shy prevents us from doing things that we are capable of. We just need to let go of it to see the full potential that we can. -The Emperor’s New Sonnet This literature opens our eyes to the situation of our society today. We are being manipulated by other people because of the fear that we don’t belong. We are in fear of talking back because we might be unable to uphold the standards that people expect us to be. We just need to be brave enough to free us from the blinding standards of other people. -The Way My Ideas Think of Me The way this poem gives the spiritual awakening to us. It reminds us that no matter we think ideas that will definitely be hell because of the ideas that are sinful and no matter how much we push God away from us, He is always there, helping us out of the cliffs and mountains that we fell into. -Tie a Yellow Ribbon Tie a Yellow Ribbon teaches us of the life lesson of truly waiting to the person you love and is accepting the truth of letting go of someone and not forcing them to stay with with you. The persona of the poem was imprisoned for three years therefore he committed a sin that made him end up in prison that is why he accepted the fact that maybe, the love of his life is not waiting for him anymore as a consequences of his actions because he knows that his love deserves someone better but the song thought us that even the most flawed person deserves to be waited for and to be loved too.
