Is everyone here familiar with scales
What are they?
It is a passage that is made up of 8 notes, 7 of which are different and the
last note is a repetition of the first.

For example C major scale is made up of

C D E F G A B and lastly C which is the higher pitched version of the first


note.

Today we will be talking about making chords or ‘triads’ on the piano.

Chords are based on the scales that your teachers teach you to practice
before you play your pieces.

You’ll hear them in many pieces of music, very widely used in pop music
today

Let’s take the C major scale for example.


To make a chord you must stack intervals of thirds on a note degree of a
scale.

Question: How many different triads or chords can we form on a major


scale:

Hint : Something to think about: How many different notes are there in a
major scale? There are 7 different chords we can make in a major scale.

Each chord has different qualities – Major and Minor

Show them degrees – Roman Numerals


Try in G major
