6M60 HIGH IDLE TEST - EPA07

The high idle test will check the condition of the intake air system - from the turbocharger to intake valves, including the EGR
valves #1 and #3, Boost Pressure sensor and hose for blockage, and carbon buildup in the intake manifold, intake ports and
valves.

1) Inspect the air cleaner, PVC filter, engine oil and coolant levels.

2) Warm up the engine until coolant temperature reaches 180° F (83°C)

3) Hook up the MUT- III and monitor the following items from the data list.

 04- Engine RPM

 26-Boost psi
 35-Water Temperature
 32- DPF Relative psi
 33-Exhaust Gas Pressure

4) Next hold down the Accelerator pedal to 100% for at least 2 minutes and then record the following readings (after
the 2 minute mark):

 04- Engine RPM: ________RPM

 26-Boost psi : ________psi.
 35-Water temperature: _ ________°F
 32- DPF Relative psi: _________psi.
 33- Exhaust Gas pressure: ________psi.

If item #26-Boost Pressure is below 29.0 psi - check the intake systems listed above.

If the reading is above 29.0 psi continue with diagnostics as needed.

Note: If #32- DPF Relative psi is above 2.0 psi perform a manual regeneration and test again.

Inspection:

1. Inspected Boost Pressure sensor and hose for carbon.

2. Insert a piece of wire or equivalent in the elbow mounted to the intake housing to remove any carbon in
the elbow. Spray carburetor cleaner and blow out with air.

3. Remove inlet piping to inspect the turbocharger compressor fins for damage and shaft end play. If bad
replace turbocharger test again

4. Remove hoses from turbocharger compressor outlet to charge air cooler inspected the turbo housing for oil
and carbon/soot.

If bad check PCV hose to intake and oil condition for dilution or overfill (above hole on dipstick). Also inspect
the hose from the charge air cooler to the inlet for the intake manifold for oil. Replace engine oil, filters,
PCV filters and test again. If boost pressure is still below 29.0 psi, replace turbocharger

5. Remove hose from the charge air cooler upstream to throttle butterfly valve to inspect for carbon and oil.
Remove and clean carbon from the throttle plate and housing.

If oil or carbon is heavy, remove intake manifold & EGR assembly and clean all carbon deposits. Inspect the

intake valve stem area for oil from stem umbrella seal. If oil is present, replace the intake valve stem
seal(s). Thoroughly clean inside the intake ports, especially around the valve.

6. Inspect for sticking EGR valve. If the EGR valves were removed for cleaning the intake manifold, manually
move the valve and inspect for smooth movement and return to the seat. If engine is assembled and
operational, removing the crossover pipe with the engine still warmed up. Run the engine, snap the throttle
to 100% for 10 seconds. The EGR valves #1 and #3 should completely close. After several snap tests, push
on the end of the valve to make certain the EGR valves close. If it is sticking, disassemble and clean or

replace the EGR and test again.
