When observing the significant amount of abandoned and

underutilized public and private spaces at Porto Alegre, Brazil,

and the urban social relations marked by indifference and
remoteness, we began to ask ourselves the following questions

What did they want from these spaces? 

Why were people not there? 

And what would happen if they began to

express their desires through actions?

Based on these questions, a group initially formed by professionals from different areas such as visual arts, architecture,
communication, cultural management and design came together to create and act on something in common: the desire to
promote meetings that could provoke other ways of reflecting on and act in the city.

The project's main characteristics are:

neighborhood context (different
neighborhoods in the city of
Porto Alegre in which the actions

understood as an improvised

In practice, the project occurs every time a collaborator accesses the Vizinhança website and calls a meeting with other alternating
members, to implement a new action in a specific neighbourhood. This request then initiates the process for developing an action,
which usually takes around a month. The first job is to obtain authorization for temporary occupation of the suggested space.
Once the permit is obtained, the following steps are taken:

In Projeto Vizinhança, we highlight
the festive character that moves
the action, understood as a
celebration in everyday life, typical
of this “being together”.

enjoy a type of pleasure that
mercantile and individualistic
consumption favors little, that is, the
experience of common happiness,
the joy of meeting, of sharing
emotions, of vibrating in unison
with the community".

The artistic processes that (2007), when we propose to think
involve the active participation about the relationship between art
of the community contribute to and the public sphere, we are
promote different uses and precisely placing art as one of the
forms of appropriation of the singularizing elements of
city and of life in society. communicative experiences, through
the establishment of a multiplicity
within its expressive instances. The

multiplicity would be founded
precisely on the permanent
possibility of mutation of these
instances and their assemblages,
which would thus be able to
generate new references for the
production of meaning.

becoming.
