Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

As an education student, I must pass the praxis core before I am fully accepted into a

bachelors level education program at UNLV, NSC, or UNR. NSC will require students who have

not passed the exam to take an additional two credit course at NSC before they can take any

education classes. The passing scores for the praxis core exam in Nevada are 156 for Reading,

162 for Writing, and 150 for Math.

Exam Preparation

Over the past ten years working in the school district I have heard about a core test that

needed to be taken in order to teach in Nevada. This test just happens to be the praxis core exam,

and I have been putting it off for too long. This assignment has brought to my attention that I

need to buckle down and take this seriously. I did very little preparing for the practice exam and

it showed in my scores. I did study for maybe 2 hours total for all three subjects and that is not

nearly enough, I have learned that I need to study and use every resource available to me in order

to ensure that I am successful at passing the praxis core exam.

Exam Results

My exam results were exactly what I expected. In reading I scored 25% which states that

I need significant improvement, In writing I scored 50% which states that I need significant

improvement, In math I scored 48% which states that I need significant improvement. These

scores make me realize that I need to do a lot of work in these areas and use my new resources to

get where I need to be to pass.

Future Exam Preparation

In order for me to better prepare myself to pass the exam I use the different praxis study

sites I have received in this class such as Khan academy which is a math program set up to help

refresh math skills needed to pass the exam. There is also mometrix test preparation which has

practice praxis tests that can be taken free and they set up a practice plan to help as well. These

are resources that I didn't know were available to students. I am also prepared to pay for a tutor.

The exam is not cheap and I do not want to keep paying for something just to fail. I need to make

this my number one priority, I have been putting it off long enough, the time has come for me to

take care of business.
