A Friend or A Fiend?

The day has come for the final passing test to be held. This test is different from the other tests. It is
a group test, comprising three students in a group.

John, Jack, and Jim, the three friends, teamed up for the test. The facilitator on the entrance gate
then let the three pick one number from 1 to 3. Every number correspond to a room that every student
from a group are planned to be separated.

“If you are just going to separate us, what’s the point of letting us create our own group, sir?”
John asked the facilitator. The other two thought the same thing as John.

“You’ll see,” the facilitator replied with a smile.

The three picked their chosen number and went to their own rooms without thinking about it. John,
Jack, and Jim entered on their own rooms and sat on their designated places confidently
.
A moment later, a voice coming from the speaker attached on the top corner filled every room and
said, “Good day everyone. In two minutes, the test will start. But before it, kindly get the test paper inside
the drawer of your own table.”

As the students pulled out their drawers, they were surprised that the test paper nothing but a
blank sheet. “Don’t be too confident. The questions will be announced later as we through the test. So
first, write your name on the top leftmost paper,” uttered by the speaker.

All the students followed the speaker and wrote their own names. “Get ready. This is the first
question,” the speaker said. The ambience of every room was changed into nervousness, but the three
boys were very excited to finish it already.

“Oh! I forgot to tell the mechanics. I’m sorry about that,” humorously told by the speaker. “This test
composed only a question. And here’s the twist! Your answers should be the same with your other group
mates. And if it didn’t happen, you failed,” the speaker continued.

The students were confused and acted crazily, but soon became quiet as the speaker spoke. “Here’s
the first and last question : If your group is on a difficult situation where one of you should be sacrificed,
who will you choose? Write your answers on the middle part of the test paper.”

The tension on every room skyrocketed and came to the point that everyone is already shouting and
complaining. “And one thing more, you can do whatever you want just to pass the test,” added by the
speaker. After that statement has been told, everyone sighed and felt relieved, just the same as they
thought about cheating through chatting via cellphones, including the three boys.

“Jim must be the one to be sacrificed since he’s the dumbest of us three,” harshly chatted by Jack. It
was agreed by John too because of the same reason. Jim, on the other hand, was emotionally hurt by the
decision sided by the two, but still agreed for their group to pass the test.

“Put all your papers upside down on your desks. The results will be then announced as soon as all
the papers were checked. Best of luck for your test! Class adjourned,” greeted by the speaker.

On the next hour, the speaker announced that only few of the students passed and the remaining
ones failed the test, and this includes the three boys.

“Sir, why did we failed the test even if we have the same names we put on our papers?” Jim asked
the facilitator.

The facilitator then said, “What’s the essence of putting you in a group if you would just sacrifice
your own group mate? Or let’s just say, why would you sacrifice your friend?” and he smiled.

“But how come that some of us passed?” raised by John.

“It’s simple. They wrote nothing,” said by the speaker.
